Ok, I was at drill yesterday (I am a Marine Corp Reservist) I f***ed up my ankle and had to go to the ER, they stick me out in the hallway on a bed and my Fireteam leader and I were talking about the movie Grandma's Boy when all of a sudden they tell him to go back into the waiting room, I noticed all the visitors were cleared out. All of a sudden EMTs wheel this bald guy into a room right across from me and put the blinds up, only from where I am at, I am forced to stare right into the room. Theres like 20 people in there with the guy and all of a sudden I see his chest quick rising. His eyes were already closed but I could actually tell when he died, he kinda jerked alittle bit.
I over heard the nurses talking and the guy tried to shop a gas station and the clerk shot him in the head with a pistol. I didn't see any marks on him, so I guess he was shot in the left side of the head or in the back of the head.
I was quite a sureal experience, after he died they left him in the room and everyone was allowed to come back in the ER. I told my Cpl. and he looked in there and said, yeah you'll get use to it when you go to Iraq. But its still on my mind heavily today.
If anyone is from Lexington KY, or the surrounding area, you might have heard about the guy, his last name is Harmon, I bet its been on the news but I've been highly medicated so I haven't got a chance to watch it yet.
Has anyone else ever witnessed someone dying before?
(Sorry if my grammar is really bad, I am on perkicets, btw having a cast and being on crutches sucks really bad.)

My very first day working in a nursing home. I don't want to say "You'll get used to it," but certainly different occupations have a different level of exposure to death. I spent three years working largely in ER's and surprisingly rarely saw death there.

I Can't even count on two hands the number of people I've seen die in front of me. My brother was a paramedic and I use to ride along with him & his partner alot. SOme of them I get messed up about, some of them I didn't. I still won't go to a local grocery store in town where I saw someone get worked over my medics. I can't even explain the feelings I've had for each and every one of them. Of course, I was devastated when I watched family members die. Seeing a stranger die kinda stayed with me in a creepy way

8 or 9 years ago my best friend died in my arms. I've been witness to more than a few deaths, and each time it's had a profound effect on me.

I saw my grandmother die about 4 days ago. Certainly not the way I want to remember her...but I;m afraid that vision will be in my head for as long as she is.

I saw a little Old lady get hit by a Bus at a bus station, her leg just snapped, twisted and split apart. I had to walk away because it was the most horrific thing I have ever seen. I found out the woman died in hospital.

I was with some friends and we were going to the mall, some kid came out of a street on a bike and got nailed from the side by a guy that was going way too fast.

I don't remember what my brother looked like when he died. It took a while to get that picture out of my head whenever I thought of him. Same goes for my dad dying. I don't even remember how bad they were when they were each battling cancer. I picture them how they normally appeared without sickness.

i was on vacation in maine (used to go all the time why i was a kid) i was about 6 and i was staying at the sleepy hollow hotel (i think its still there) it was a place with a normal hotel and family sized cabins, so me and my family were staying there and there was a few other familys with kids so i went to play with them, we were playing if front of their cabin and their grandfather was sitting out front talking to either the mother or an older sister, at first he looked as if he was nodding off to sleep but then he just closed his eyes, it took a few minutes for anyone to realise it but he died right their in the chair, after that its all a blur, i can vaguely remeber the ambulance and the kids crying and my mom walking me away but thats the first time i saw someone die
the second (and hopefully last time) was a lot more tragic (at least for me), i was with a friend of mine and we were walking down the street in a very bad neighborhood when there was a gang shooting, all i remember was a hail of bullets one cliping me in the arm, my friend wasnt so lucky, one hit him in the head, according to the emts he died instantly, like i said i really hope 2 deaths is all i ever have to see for anyone else here thats seen death i hope that what you've seen is all you have to see also

I saw my brother die of cancer over 7 years ago..although it's still in my head it's not as prevelant. I used to see that picture whenever I thought of him..now I think of him healthy and only think of him being sick when I think or see someone else sick/dying. Heck..I'm not really over seeing my other brother almost die from a brain tumor..although thank God (literally) the doctor was able to remove the "unremovable" growth and he is driving us to the beach this weekend.

I watched my father rot away to basically nothing due to liver cancer for almost five months. It was to the point where his death was a good thing because I knew in his eyes he was in more pain than he let on. I'm sure having someone die suddenly that is close to you is worse, though.

My grandmother passed away in her home, due to cancer. I didn't actually watch her die, as I was babysitting her granddaughter, but I saw her corpse shortly after she passed away.
It never bothered me, or even upset me. I don't know if that's normal or not, but her mind died a couple weeks before her body, and I saw death as something more merciful than life. She was a dignified lady, and there's nothing dignified about being bed-ridden and needing diapers and 24/7 care.

Both when I worked in a nursing home and at the hospital I currently am at, I've witnessed people dying. Maybe I'm different, but I simply accept it as a part of life. Other people's deaths have never really had profound effects on me, and I have an easy time finding humor in the subject itself at times.
