Remember loving it when it first came out. Probably the best sports movie there is. Remember when ESPN shown the game to promote the movie. Everyone knows the famous Al Michaels quote. Anyone else a fan of the movie?

Favorite movie of all time. The part where Herb talks to his wife about the US/Soviet game is one of my favorite scenes.

It's a fine movie, but it's no Slap Shot.
Plus, I'm not really sold on how great Americans treat this moment....I guess it's your Summit Series.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

Plus, I'm not really sold on how great Americans treat this moment....I guess it's your Summit Series. There are 2 reasons: 1) The Russian team was an unstoppable beast of a team that dominated world hockey and had won gold the previous 5 or 6 Olympics. The American team, prior to the Olympics weren't considered a threat to be anywhere near the medal round, and consisted of a bunch of 18-21 year old kids. It's one of, if not THE biggest underdog story in sports history. 2) This happened as the cold war had raged on and in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, as well as economic hard times. America as a nation was reeling and symbolically rallied behind the men's team as they made their improbable run. Not to mention, don't underestimate how much this loss was a big deal to the Russians. (There's a terrific documentary that touches on this involving interviews from a lot of the parties from both teams. Highly recommend) As for the movie itself: Probably one of Kurt Russel's best roles that isn't talked about nearly enough. The hockey action was well crisp and well shot. Great cast

Great cast Yeah, I know all the history fully. Tikhonov pulling Tretiak was a huge mistake, there's conspiracy theories around it, had he not, it's likely the Soviets would have won.
