From 0:03 to 0:05 seconds. Anyone know what that instrument/sound is called?

I'll guess xylophone.

Dammit, I know it, can't get the name. It may be being replicated by a keyboard, but it is based off a real instrument, and it hasn't been named thus far.

It's a Stock/Aitken/Waterman song, so it's probably a keyboard or emulator type thing. For other examples check just about any other S/A/W song (Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, Bananarama) from the late 80s as they're all pretty much the same.

Wow, didn't realize that these S/A/W guys were the main creators of my 80s ear orgasms. They are awesome! Xylophone seems pretty close, hard to tell. Thanks for the replies so far, that one sound is my favorite 80s sound ever.

There was a running joke about them involving the name of their studio "The Hit Factory" in that someone slammed the door too hard and the "s" fell off. To be fair, I liked some of their songs.

Possibly a slightly reverby glockenspiel style midi sample.
And after listening to it for a second time it sounds like a similar odd synth was used in Mr Kennedys best heel WWE theme.

Keyboard synth of a vibraphone/xylophone/glockenspiel with some reverb would be my guess
