They're caught in the middle-ground, is the thing. They WANT to do HLA... 60% of their fans (and probably half the writers) aren't aware there's a difference between HLA and actual gay women.

But, they know that would be terrible and make them look bad, and I honestly believe that the other half of the people involved (including AJ herself, I suspect) want to legit do an interesting story about queer characters.

I agree with your first point. I wouldn't assume AJ to be chomping at the bit to do a lesbian storyline but the story itself feels like the WWE wants to do something more titillating than they're allowed to so they're skirting around it awkwardly. I didn't mind how it started because it was pretty clear that they were just playing mind games but especially last night it felt like a TNA angle. They're mad at each other, then they're being all flirty and weird, it's just random things happening because they don't know what to do anymore.

When people talked about a lesbian relationship and considering this is a storyline involving AJ...and considering I'm begging WWE to do something interesting with her character...

I thought that for a minute they had AJ lose her damn mind and actually treat the title as if it's a lover and they're in a relationship, while Paige is the jealous "homewrecker" trying to court an inanimate object.

I'd watch AJ and Paige fight for the "relationship" of the Companion Cube that would be the Divas title....though we could replace either one of them with Alicia Fox because I'd watch Alicia Fox treating the title as if it were an actual person.
