Outside of a significant other or something like that of course. Anyway, I've been looking at my finances a lot lately and with how things are it seems like living with a roommate is one of the few practical solutions to help me with them. However, I'm 27 and it just seems a little old to be living with a stranger/strangers. Not to mention the fact that I f***ing HATE living with roommates. Many bad experiences. However, I'm paying over a $1000 a month now for rent and have seen roommate postings on Craig's List for under $400.
Anyway, thoughts? Do you live with a roommate? If not then have you ever and when was the last time you did?

You don't want to hear it... but it's an answer only you know.
As far as myself, I haven't had a room-mate since age 20, and that was in a college dorm. I've had people live in my house when they take a new job and move into the area (before they have their own place) but I don't consider that being a room-mate.

I last had a room mate when I was 19 and was in my first Uni accommodation. As soon as I made some friends I was off and into a shared house.

For me, it's whether or not I have the funds for it. Whenever I don't, I'll deal with having a roommate for a while.
But that hasn't been the case for years.

When you're dead. Sharing a coffin is lame.
Roommates just make sense. I could probably afford a 1 bedroom or studio apt, but if I weren't already living with someone I'd still go for a roommate.
There's no age limit on having a roommate though.

It's not an age issue so much as it is one of confinement. If you have somebody running over top of you, no age is too young to say eff this. If you get on well and feel like you have your space, you're never too old.
Obviously, when you get to the missus/kids portion of your life it might break down, but until then, who cares? It's kinda nice having someone around sometimes, or can be anyways. The actually having a bit of discretionary income thing ain't too shabby either.

I don't think it matters. You have to do what's right financially.

f***, I'm 28 and I wish I could find someone to rent out my basement. When the wife left, I ended up with a big ass house that costs alot to upkeep, plus a mortgage, and would absolutely kill to find someone who would be willing to pay 500-600 a month for a 1200 sq. ft. basement. 2 bedrooms down there, full bathroom, only shared quarters would be kitchen.
EDIT: And I hate having a roommate (not big on being around people for the most part), but the financial upside would so be worth it for me

I'd love to move out and live on my own but could never afford it so I'd be perfectly happy to rent with somebody else. And I'm nearly 30.

That is a different dynamic.

For me personally it was when I hit 21 and wasn't living with a partner/set of fellow musicians.
Playing music to a certain level means you can not be a room mate with most people a lot of the time, no one wants to hear you playing 6 or 7 hours a day when you have free time, and it leads to ruining friendships. As much as people who don't play several instruments say they won't mind they will do by the time you're playing cello and recordings keys and singing melodies at 10am on a Saturday morning when they want to lie in, but you don't have any other time to record when it's peaceful for the most part etc.
So yeah, after moving around a fair bit at that point in time (over a year and a half, sharing with 4 different sets of room mates in different places) I realized it's pretty unacceptable for me to put non-racket makers through the nonsense. Plus meditation and writing, as well as having people over in your own space is much easier.
I do socialize well and tend to spread my wings/travel a ton though, so I very rarely feel like lacking a room mate would ever hinder things should I suddenly be kicked out of the apartment by my partner.

Anywho with me I had a personal goal I wouldn't have a roommate before I turned 24. Did it two months before I turned 23. I would say you're never too old for a roommate and it really depends on your local economy. What makes me mad is when I see bunch of people in their late 20's and 30's and even 40's making like 6-8 grand a month who needs a bunch of roommates so they can afford their expensive drug and alcohol habit lol.

Vancouver is the second most expensive place in the world to live in! Toronto used to be really expensive. Calgary is getting really expensive as well with Edmonton!

I'm 29 and am stuck in a barracks because of my rank. For years I've always had my own place. So yeah... there is such a thing a being too old for it you have the means to.

I was just saying that if there was an offer like that in my neck of the woods I'd probably jump at it. Provided Muskrat Fears Nugget isn't insane of course.
