Damn that sucks. The guy was such a wonderful heel, even without that "he killed two people" BS.
The fact that we were just talking about him in TPIR thread shows how cool he was out of character.

RIP. He was a legendary heel but seemed like a very cool guy out of character, as his Price is Right appearance showed.

Remember the whole bit about 2 people dying after matches with Ox, and the heart punch being blamed? Well, here's what happened when Ox later attacked a babyface with multiple heart punches.

Ox Baker had a really cool look, it's kind of a shame that he's not more well known.

Ox Baker had a really cool look, it's kind of a shame that he's not more well known. Ox lived not far from me for a period of his life. I have a co-worker non-wrestling fan who says that he was her babysitter on multiple occasions and that he scared her.

Ox Baker loves steak, not soup. And he really doesn't love Ronnie Garvin. Rest in peace to one of my all time favorite bad guys.

Damn shame. Never saw much of his stuff, as he was way before my time, but he had an iconic look and was one of those old school guys that almost seemed like mythical beasts, you'd hear all these stories and legends about them, and they're usually true!

Does anybody know why he's not in the HOF? I was surprised when I looked it up. He truly was one of the greats, and went on to have acareer out of wrestling.

He was barely connected to them, with an initial run there in the late 60s under another gimmick and a brief return in 1980, in which he accomplished nothing. There's really no reason for them to consider him. Plenty of other guys had careers outside of wrestling. In the WON HOF? Not likely there. While he has a legacy with fans, and his character was tremendous, he simply wasn't the sort of wrestler they usually consider. His actual wrestling skills were, to be fair, not good. He succeeded due to his character, but characters and gimmicks aren't what the WON voters go for.

I only recently discovered Ox, but I was instantly enthralled. After seeing the Price is Right clip earlier in the week, I watched several other videos of him on YouTube. Truly one of the coolest characters in the profession. Sad to see him go.

Over the past few years it has morphed into a wrestling HOF under the WWE banner more than a WWE HOF. Yes, and most of them either had something to offer the company (footage libraries) or were the cream of the crop A-listers (Gorgeous George, Abby, Mascaras). Ox hadn't/wasn't either. There are still literally dozens if not hundreds of non-WWE guys who are more likely to get into the HOF than Ox. That's not knocking Ox - again, he was a great person with a unique and enduring gimmick - but there just simply isn't enough there for him to really even be considered.

Yes he was. There was a brief exchange between King and JBL discussing his passing.

Ox Baker looked the part of a dangerous man; large man with a bald head, Fu Manchu mustache and - this is the first time I can recall noticing - his eyebrows looked like devil horns. He screamed during interviews, vowing to tear up the local babyfaces. I remember seeing him in old AWA footage as a kid and that man scared the daylights out of me. It's a wonder I was an AWA fan; between him and Mad Dog Vachon, what could I have been watching if I was rarely in the room?
Rest in piece, good sir.
