Sad to hear. Ox was always intimidating and sometimes still good for a laugh. He will be missed.

That's sad, he was a beast in Escape From New York.

Aw damn...and we just found his Price is Right episode (between this and what happened to Randy Amasia, are long lost game show appearances cursed?) Seriously, I met him a couple of years back and he was always on indy shows with his own table. He was offbeat as you'd imagine, but really nice.
As a sidenote, is it true that he once wrestled as a face who would kiss the referee when he won? My dad keeps on insisting that he remembered a wrestler who went by "The Ox" who did so.
RIP, and as always, WHAM!!! Can your heart stand it?!!?

Oh geez. He was one of those wrestlers who I somehow never saw wrestle but yet knew from wrestling (and his outside ventures). I like to think you made it if people can identify you like that. He also trained Bryan Clark, who brought to life one of my favorite gimmicks ever (Adam Bomb), so this death stings. The only lighthearted thing I could say now that is Jerry's "RIP OX" comment makes me think he'd try to hug and kiss Ox. Who I would assume would just want none of that. RIP Ox. (Not capitalized, please don't hurt me Ox...)

Dated a relative of his back in college and he was an amazing dude to meet. Was a super nice guy that just seemed to enjoy life.
His mustache alone had more charisma than most wrestlers today.

Ahh...I'd seen a fairly recent pic (a few months back, anyway) and thought he looked pretty rough.
80, though, nice going! I think Kurt Russell still has a couple aches from him.

An iconic character, that's for sure. You knew he was big just by looking at him. RIP.

Born 10 years later he would have main evented an early Wrestlemania with Hogan. Incredible promo, you could sense the fear of the man with every word he said and they did an amazing job in making the heart punch into a sinister move.

Gary Hart once told a story about working for Bill Watts, who was using Ox because he was a great heel, but hated his work in the ring. Apparently, Watts would browbeat Ox about learning how to work. One day, Ox asked Gary if he was really a bad worker. Gary replied, "Oh, what would Bill Watts know about it? He can't work either!"
Shortly after, Ox and Bill had another match, and when they came to the back, Watts loudly said, "Are you ever going to learn how to work?" Ox replied, "You wouldn't know it if I did! You can't work either!" Watts asked, "What makes you say that?" and Ox replied, "Because Gary Hart told me."
Gary said Watts turned red as a stop sign and stared at him for a few seconds before laughing, shaking his head, and walking away.
I met Ox a few years ago at Fanfest. I've wished ever since that I had gotten a photo with him, but I do have a nice 8x10 of him with his stretcher with "Ox Baker Carryout Service" printed on it that he signed for me. He was definitely a memorable character, in and out of the ring, and due to the completely unrelated deaths of two wrestlers after taking it, the heart punch was most definitely over. I know there's stories of at least one riot taking place because Ox kept hitting someone with it and the fans thought he was trying to kill the guy.
