I know it's Spring Training and this doesn't mean much of anything, but the Mets have the best run differential among all teams right now and oh my God I just want the season start nooooooow. In all seriousness, the lineup looks great, the rotation is solid, and the bench and minor leagues have depth. A bad Spring Training is usually much more indicative of regular season results than a good one, but having watched a lot of their games, they just look locked in and ready to go. Only concern right now is health and some effectiveness issues from the bullpen, but again, they've got enough young depth in the minors to bring up new guys if anybody falters. eh I still say they're a year away from serious contention. I peg them at around 84-78

I peg them at around 84-78 I think the only thing preventing them from being serious contenders this season is if nobody steps up in Zack Wheeler's absence...they'll get decent pitching in his place (between Gee, Montero, Sydnergaard, Matz, or whomever), but Wheeler clearly was demonstrating ace upside in the second half last year, and if he picked up where he left off then the Mets would've had a Harvey/deGrom/Wheeler three headed monster to work with. So on the one hand, yeah, they'll miss that upside, but I don't really see what'll hold them back this year besides injuries, which are always a possibility. And besides, given the second wild card, 85 win potential basically means you're in the race.

The White Sox have added the black diamond patch on the right sleeve with a silver/grey* number 9 for Minnie Minoso.
(*depending on your point of view)

I just went back and read through all the Game 7 posts where the Giants won. Won the World Series. I feel I'm going to need to do that frequently to keep my head up, because the Giants can legitimately lose close to 100 games and be one of the worst teams in baseball this year. What a shitty uninspiring offseason following a(nother) championship.

Since the season is coming up soon, I figure now is as good a time as any to start up what are likely hilariously off predictions for how the season will go.
Here are my own predictions, which will likely be very inaccurate. They are listed from first to worst in each division.
NL East: Nationals, Mets, Marlins, Braves, Phillies NL Central: Cardinals, Cubs, Pirates, Reds, Brewers, NL West: Dodgers, Padres, Giants, Diamondbacks, Rockies
Wild Cards: Cubs, Pirates
AL East: Orioles, Blue Jays, Yankees, Red Sox, Rays AL Central: Indians, Royals, Tigers, White Sox, Twins AL West: Angels, Mariners, Athletics, Rangers, Astros
Wild Cards: Blue Jays, Mariners

I'll go with the Nats, Cards, and Dodgers as NL Division champs, Pirates as first Wild Card, and since they're my team and look to finally be good again, I've got to put the Mets in the second. If we're being brutally honest, that spot could go to New York, San Diego, Milwaukee (I think they'll surprise some people this year), Miami, etc., but hey, I'm a Mets fan, and it's spring time.
In the AL, I'll pick Toronto (take your pick, the East is wide open), Cleveland, and Seattle as the division champs, with the Angels as the top Wild Card and the Tigers, Royals, Orioles, and A's (who pull their usual voodoo/smart analysis work and wind up in contention) duking it out for the second, with Boston on the periphery.

I'd love to pick Toronto to make the playoffs.....but then I have to remember that this team is in the hard ass AL East and that Toronto hasn't been to the playoffs since 1993. Also, we have had years where we got talent and well....hasn't worked out well in the past.

Michael Matuella, one of the top pitching prospects in the upcoming 2015 draft will undergo TJ surgery. With Aiken and now Matuella on the shelf, two of the top five prospects won't be ready until late next year.

Jesus. Philly fans who have to put up with that front office, in what is almost sure to be a very down year, so let's all do some shots for the first few innings to see how that takes the edge off.

They're going to have to line the field with chicken wire like it's the stage at the Double Deuce in "Road House".
