Jesus. Philly fans who have to put up with that front office, in what is almost sure to be a very down year, so let's all do some shots for the first few innings to see how that takes the edge off. They're going to have to line the field with chicken wire like it's the stage at the Double Deuce in "Road House". Can Zombie Swayze cool those crowds?

I made a promise to myself after going to a Mets/Phillies game down in Philly in 2008 that I wouldn't go back to that place unless Phillies fans stopped showing up (a long story involving getting threatened, insulted, and physically accosted for committing the crime of wearing a Mets sweater). It was a game where Jose Reyes nearly got a concussion sliding into second base, and the vast majority of the stadium broke out into a loud cheer when it looked like he might not get up.
I was considering reneging on that this season since the fans down there figure not to show up very often with the team looking the way it does...but if they're selling hard booze, forget it. I may be stupid, but I'm not suicidal.

That's exactly what angry Philly sports fans with a shitty team need: a quicker way to get drunk.

It's a good thing Sabean and Bochy got their extensions before this 100 loss trainwreck of a season that's looming.

Sabean isn't someone I'd consider a good GM. He just keeps getting lucky. Whenever he signs an over-the-hill player, he tends to use a bunch of cliches to justify the signings. He will using the following in various combinations.
Professional Hitter - Usually a guy who hits .280-.300 but doesn't draw any walks nor hit for power. They usually hit something like .290/.330/.405. Ex: Freddy Sanchez.
Proven Veteran - A player who has played in the majors forever but was never a quality starter and didn't do much to actually help their teams win. Ex: Mickey Hatcher
Proven Winner - A proven veteran who's played on a lot of playoff teams but contributed very little to them.
The Gamer! - A player who hustles all the time, breaks up double plays, and gets his uniform dirty. But he can't really hit, field, nor run. Ex: Eric Byrnes.
Sabean is guilty of all of the above.

@bnightengale Oh-oh. #Angels president John Carpino reporters:"It defies logic that Josh's reported behavior is not a violation of his current program."
lol
Not a good look for the Angels or MLB.
Never take the owners side

So the Reds and Blue Jays are playing an exhibition at Montreal's Olympic Stadium...that place is still ass. If they want a team to move there, they better have a new ballpark ready. (I'm looking at you, Tampa Bay.) And to you Keith Moreland fans, he's doing color for Conference USA baseball.

(I'm looking at you, Tampa Bay.) And to you Keith Moreland fans, he's doing color for Conference USA baseball. I went up there for the Mets/Jays games last year, first time up there since my family did a big east Canadian road trip back in the late 90s. I'll say this: I stayed in downtown Montreal, couple of blocks off St. Catherine, down the block from a subway stop...and I adored the convenience of getting to Olympic. Montreal's got a nice, smooth metro system, and from downtown to the ballpark was an easy 10 minute trip or so, with a metro stop that literally empties directly into the stadium entrance. I remember reading that among the many critiques of the park, people whined a lot about how hard it was to drive there, that it made it hard for people in the city to get there, and all I could think was "why on Earth would you drive when the train gets here so easily?". As a Mets fan from New Jersey, I'm stuck taking a train into Manhattan, then getting all the way to the 7 train stop at Times Square, then hoping that I catch an express line that gets me to Queens quickly; compared to that, Montreal was a cakewalk. I'll also say this: ...yeah, the park is butt ugly. There's a part of me that misses the old school parks for various reasons, but they have not done much at all to keep that place up well. In addition, while the subway-to-ballpark convenience was great, they did NOT look prepared for the amount of fans showing up with tickets at the will-call window; I had to miss the ceremony honoring Gary Carter because I was just standing there waiting to get my envelope of tickets for God knows how long. Still, it was fun seeing old Expos fans slamming the seats down to chant with. Admittedly, it'd break my heart it the Expos came back, but were in the American League. Wouldn't feel right. I'd get it: it may be the Rays that move, they'd still be in the East, and you'd have built in rivalries with Toronto and Boston...but still.

Never take the owners side Angels whining about one of their players not being disciplined for coming forward in a CONFIDENTIAL manner. Classy organization.
