Indians signed RHP Corey Kluber to a five-year, $38.5 million contract extension. Love that the ace got locked up, but as a die-hard, I'm scared that now his arm will fall off and make our hitters unable to make contact outside of BP.

I'm extremely happy that Melvin/BJ is gone, but holy shit, the Braves have absolutely nothing.
Andrelton Simmons is amazing defensively, but sucks offensively. Freddie Freeman is a spotty hitter with mediocre defense.
It's going to be a long, painful season, fellow Braves fans.

I can't make any sense of that trade from Atlanta's perspective.
Sure, you've rid yourself of Melvin Upton and his albatross contract, but in the process you've also dealt your best reliever, who just so happens to be arguably the best relief pitcher in baseball. And in return, you get an aging outfielder who has been a shell of himself for the better part of the last three seasons, a prospect that has developed into a massive bust, and two young players who at best can best be identified as question marks.

Yep, I can't gather what the hell Atlanta was thinking either. The bullpen is completely gutted at this point. Also, this is going to murder their ticket sales. They traded away three of their most popular players during this offseason and got almost nothing in return.

According to BP, Matt Wisler projects to be a #3-#4 starter. Paroubeck is raw but interesting. 2013 third round pick could hit 30 homers if all goes well so he's not a throw in.
Amazing thing with SD, they improve the MLB team and argubly still keep their 2 best prospects (Austin Hedges and Hunter Renfroe.)

He's got all the tools to be one of the premiere defensive catchers in baseball but he's a lost cause in the batter's box. He has regressed significantly since 2012 and his .268 on-base percentage and .321 slugging percentage in a full 2014 season are just ghastly figures.

"We traded for Melvin Upton" "Why would anyone want BJ Upton? he sucks" "No, we got Melvin Upton" "That's the same guy"

Wrigley Field with a monolithic video board hanging over the left field bleachers is like taking the Mona Lisa and giving her giant, DD-sized fake boobs.

Braves fan and I love this deal.
Closer like Kimbrel on a bad team is a luxury. Got out from under Melvin's albatross contract, and snagged Wisler in the deal who seems like a pretty intriguing long-term piece.
It's going to painful in the near-term, but I like the direction.
The one thing that remains a head-scratcher is why give Nick Markakis that 4-year deal. But I guess that's water under the bridge now.

And with that the Cubs are mathematically eliminated from the post season. Don't worry suckers Cubs Fans, there's always next year.

Wrigley trying to outdo the A's stadium situation: We’ve been chronicling the hilarity of the Cubs’ attempts to renovate Wrigley Field this offseason, but things took a dark turn as the park opened for its first game Sunday night. An anonymous tipster sent us the above photo with the following explanation: Hi, Wrigley is an unmitigated disaster tonight. Every bathroom line is roughly a block/30 mins long. Men are peeing against walls in the concourse. This is a real picture of a makeshift urinal I took right after a guy used it. deadspin.com/are-fans-at-wrigley-field-being-forced-to-pee-in-cups-1695889115What a mess

Are there a lot of bathrooms closed up or something?
Though hey, Wrigley at least didn't become a literal sewer like Oakland did. But until they get the bathroom situation fixed, they should install piss troughs like in old country!

I'm planning on going on Monday week for the Cubs/Reds game - guess it's best to "go" at the nearby bar before the game then.
