Vin Scully called his first Dodgers game 65 years ago today. Amazing. I say this as a Giants fan, that man is a national treasure, we should bronze him. I got lucky growing up in the 80's in Ohio with a dad who was a huge baseball fan and passed his love for it on to me. Scully, like you said, is a national treasure and as far as I'm concerned is on announcing's Mount Rushmore. I didn't get Dodgers games in Ohio, obviously, but I got to hear Harry Caray on WGN, could pick up Ernie Harwell out of Detroit on the radio at night, and hot to here Herb Score calling Indians games on WTAM. Locally, of course, we had Nuxhall, which was always fun cause the man could just tell some stories. My personal Rushmore for announcing, and I know it's subjective, is Scully, Caray, Harwell, and the fourth one is tough. Nuxhall and Score are big parts of my childhood, and meeting Herb at spring training in '94 was awesome (super nice guy), but my fourth would have to be the voice of This Week In Baseball, Mel Allen.

Marlins are already considering firing Redmond (the hell?) and possibly replacing him with Wally Backman (LOL)

For me, Allen was the fourth just because he was part of my Saturday mornings as a kid just as much as cartoon and Bobby Heenan were.

An MRI taken last Thursday confirmed that Justin Verlander is dealing with a right triceps strain.

Mets fans are super spoiled with our history of announcers: the original Lindsey Nelson-Ralph Kiner-Bob Murphy team is legendary (I wish Bob Murphy got more national recognition, just godly announcing), and the modern era headed by Gary Cohen and Howie Rose is remarkable, as well.
Cohen always worships at the altar of Scully, though; I think they let Gary do a brief interview with him a few years back, and he was fanboy-ing out, and justifiably so.

Scary situation in Pittsburgh, where a woman sitting behind home plate, was struck in the head by a foul ball. The games been delayed for several minutes. This is just awful. Saying a prayer for her.

...bryant gets credited with a 3 run double, then reached home on two errors due to the pirates not being able to catch a baseball.

Update on the fan who was struck by a foul ball. She was conscious and responsive as she left PNC park via ambulance.

Two things. One, that's some late 70's drunk as f*** Tommy Lasorda level swearing there. Two, given that rosters are not like secret ballots, it's one of those "Well, yeah, you do kinda have to tells us who you've got". Otherwise it's a big ol' screw you to the guys printing up programs at the stadium. Do they just guess?

I'm a Reds fan and I think I've posted this here before....but Price is in way over his damn head as a manager. It's getting late and not gonna go off on a ramble here, but for a season and a month this guy has made me do the wtf Jaguars fan gif more than I care to remember. This particular foray into 4 letter words has a history though. End of last year he out and out admitted he was too open with the media concerning players availability and the like. He said he was going to cut back on that this year, unfortunately he decided that info was now part of national security and should be accompanied with a tirade that would make Billy Martin blush.

MLB suspended Kelvin Herrera for five games and fined him an undisclosed amount for throwing at Athletics third baseman Brett Lawrie on Sunday.

Well, growing up in Cincinnati, the local sports media has a, I think, weird relationship with both the Reds and Bengals. Half the time they're out and out homers for both clubs, to the point it would make Hawk Harrelson flinch, and then they go Woodward and Bernstein the other half the time. Before the paper was shut down, I remember they had a war of sorts going with the Post back in the early to mid 90's.

The Mets, winners of 8 in a row, are currently up 4-0 on the Braves.

Plus, at 11-3, they've matched the all-time best start in franchise history, tying the 1986 team.
Which means...HIT THE MUSIC!
