Benoit - Before the incident.... Everyone wanted this guy pushed to the moon. So they launch him into space and we realize.... Oh, he isn't that entertaining. Got the belt off of him ASAP and pushed right down to ECW.
RVD - Everything everyone said was true. He was "held down" for good reason.

Yeah, damn that Daniel Bryan for needing serious neck surgery! In his case, "dropping the ball" may be unfair, but they put a lot of time into getting him over. They get ripped a lot for not rewarding the best workers, but they invested a lot in Bryan. They made a superstar and were not able to get any kind of run out of him.

If they had kept the title on him at SummerSlam like they should have, he could have had a 9-month run. Also, the likelihood is he's coming back and he'll be just as over as he was before. There's still a lot of time to get something from his push.

Owen didn't drop the ball, he just dropped. Not even close to funny and not even close to appropriate for this board. Only warning you're getting.

In regards to dropping the ball, all I can think of is guys maybe having bad matches. I remember on ECW, it was a triple threat with CM Punk, Shelton Benjiman and Elijah Burke, and it stunk the joint out really badly. But, nobody's perfect.

Zach Ryder.
You can argue that WWE wasted him, and you'd have a good point. But at the same time he seemed to become complacent and didn't do a whole lot to really justify any long term push.

Chris Hero getting fired for not working out. I'll still defend Hero for his overall work in NXT and an okay though certainly not ideal physique but yeah, it's reaaaaaallly tough to defend him with the way he looks now. Talk about seemingly trying to prove your haters right.

Imo, none of the guys mentioned here dropped the ball. They still found success in the end (benoit tarnished his legacy though)
Now, a real case of indy darling dropping the ball is kaval

all of them! I can't think of any that haven't dropped the ball in some way.
I'm with Kevin Nash and Al Snow when it comes to these wrestlers the internet fans/smarks seem to love; To paraphrase Nash "Being a good worker has nothing to do with this Cirque du Soleil sh*t that these young guys think is wrestling"

They couldve had a year or so with Bryan on top if they didn't drag their asses with him and gave him the push he deserved to begin with. WWE are the ones who are the ball droppers.

I wouldn't say anyone "dropped the ball" in this case , but because of "reasons" which we all pretty much know Kharma never really got to make the impact that her promo vids where telling us , hell when was the last time before that that any female wrestler got a per-debut video promo video.

it might be due to bad booking, but CM Punks first WHC reign in 2008 was very unmemorable

Benoit is the ultimate one. An "internet Darling" before such a stupid term existed (or the Internet itself for that matter) who f***ed it all up and disappointed all of us. An all time great wrestler who made us all ashamed to route for him back in the day.

Daniel Bryan - won two big matches at Wrestlemania and 2 months later he couldn't work a match What a stupid thing to say. That's like saying Magnum TA dropped the ball...
