He was in a wheelchair and couldn't work out for a summer. I defy anyone coming out of that looking like great. I get that, but why not at least wear a singlet? Who knows if he even owns one. He probably sees his extra weight a a temporary thing, which it is, and doesn't want to invest in something he's not going to need for very long anyway.

Chris Hero getting fired for not working out. I'll still defend Hero for his overall work in NXT and an okay though certainly not ideal physique but yeah, it's reaaaaaallly tough to defend him with the way he looks now. Talk about seemingly trying to prove your haters right. His NXT stuff was pretty good. I almost hope that the back injury thing is true, rather than it turn out he's just gotten lazy. He's said that the door was left open for him at WWE, so hopefully he can get whatever surgery/rest he needs, get back into shape and head back to WWE.

Yeah, damn that Daniel Bryan for needing serious neck surgery! Haha, right? It's an interesting thread idea, but this 'example' is pretty silly.

More people should cite Brian Kendrick here. After doing amazing work, he gets depushed and fired because he's not willing to even be smarter about his habits. That one actually upsets me.

Serena from the Straight Edge Society
As far as I'm aware she was released for not playing up the Straight Edge gimmick in public. It seems like a small price to pay for such a high profile role in the company, next to Punk, which any Diva would have killed for.

RVD and it isn't even close. He had a very large segment of fans who thought he was held down. He finally got his chance and promptly dropped the ball, kicked it, kicked it again and then watched it roll off a cliff. Absolute definitive answer here.

...does "dropping the ball" not mean what I think it does? Most of these all seem to be totally different things.

Mike Enos. He had the entire wrestling business in the palm of his hand, then....

I think it was less that Serena was not playing up to the gimmick and more her being drunk at a high profile event and acting like a very drunk person. Rhyno got released by the WWE very quickly for smashing a vase in a hotel lobby in a similar way, he and others have said he'd not have been fired if he did this in private but because it was in a public place it was game over.

I read a Rajah article that insinuated CM Punk dropped his ball while he was taking it home.

Makes no sense that Serena gets criticized for not playing up the Straight Edge gimmick, t hen they fire Rhyno for goring vases in hotel lobbies.

Wasn't she the only Diva in developmental willing to shave her head in order to get that role?

Owen Hart had the chance to win a belt with his brother but Owen kicked Bret's leg from out of his leg.

John Morrison was the internet's golden child there for a while, but he ended up not really going anywhere due to a fatal case of mediocrity.

John Morrison was the internet's golden child there for a while, but he ended up not really going anywhere due to a fatal case of mediocrity. Mediocrity is a compliment for Morrison. He was utterly terrible. Why anyone ever liked this guy is beyond me. I enjoyed him at the time, I liked his play on Jim Morrison in ECW, when that ended I enjoyed his goofy tag team with The Miz, and when he ended up on Raw/Smackdown again he had a few nice flashy moves. But looking back, outside of the Miz/Morrison match which ended in an amazing table spot outside the ring, the Morrison/Sheamus ladder match, the CM Punk/Miz/Morrison ECW title match, and the Miz/Moz vs Brothers of Destruction match (man, Miz gelled with him), I...don't know. On rewatching any but the matches listed I'm not interested. In fact he and Shelton Benjamin had one of THE worst matches in recent history on PPV. Awful spot-fest with no logic, no point, no value, no psychology. Why the hell did they remove his interesting/silly Jim Morrison stream of thought promos? It pretty much ruined Morrison in kayfabe, both in terms of him being unconfident on the mic and the WWE seemingly cutting any reason for him to ever feud with anyone. To be honest though he didn't drop the ball, he got shoved in an aimless midcard, had his gimmick cut down, fans stopped responding when he stopped getting booked in any angles, and he was used to put Miz over a ton. Which I agreed with, and still do, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't have worked harder to make Morrison interesting in kayfabe.

WGTT pretty much seemed to descend into mediocrity after they won the ROH Tag Titles, especially Shelton. People had pretty high hopes for that run, and and it started really well, but by fall of 2011, their work had really deteriorated, and people were begging for them to lose the belts.
