Whom just won't listen.
My Dad has got a new Tv. Of course programs are filmed in different formats which puts black bars on screen now and again.
But he will not listen to anyone, stubbornly insisting the TV is at fault and now he's getting the sellers of the TV to come here and try and fix it despite my brother and I telling him they'll simply repeat what we're trying to tell him.
Sigh.
Anyone else has similar examples?

Yeah. You just gotta let them burn themselves out and remember to be more open to stuff than they are.

Sigh. Anyone else has similar examples? Had to explain this to my mother-in-law. Sky HD was showing an old 4:3 episode of the Simpsons with the black bars, so she was convinced that all HD channels forced the black bars no matter what program, so she refused to watch HD channels despite demanding the HD package in the first place.

Push them over.
This serves no real purpose other than you get to make them fall down, and possibly hurt themselves.
It's really more a catharsis for yourself.

My mom used to be really bad about stuff like this, but since my dad died she has been more open minded and grasping the truth more quickly.
My neighbor, whom I am tech support for, well, good lord. His tv has the option to zoom and stretch, so any 4:3 program he has stretched to shit because "I paid for the whole tv, I am using the whole tv".
And then he doesn't unzoom for HD shit so he is cutting off the edges.

My mom and her computer. She's not really cranky about it, but she won't listen. She keeps getting all sorts of malware and crap. I'll clean it up and three weeks later it's back to where it was. She was insistent that Amazon was the issue. My wife and I keep telling her that we don't have any issues with it at all, but she is sure it's their site.

I have a TIVO box instead of cable. It allows me to change the format of the picture manually so I can eliminate any black bars it doesn't get rid of by itself.
And if I didn't have a high tolerance for stubborn cranky people, I would never have been able to marry my wife. Every single member of her family is like that.

** Weren't Blu Ray and 1080p TVs supposed to eliminate the black bars? I remember being told that years ago but the only movies I know to get rid of them completely are movies filmed in IMAX. But, maybe I'm wrong because I really don't even notice the bars anymore. Not every movie is filmed in the same aspect ratio, so there will always be bars. There was a push to make 16x10 tvs that would come closer to eliminating it since most movies are that ratio. But it kind of fell to the wayside as far as I can tell.

My mom has problems with technology,. but we still use full screen TVs'
Plus, she puts Bad News Brown to shame with her bungling of the English language... well, if it has more than two syllables, it's not "English". Considering how rough her entire life was, I can understand this, but it's hard to tell her that she keeps mispronouncing words.

I got an old bag who I work with who is like this.
What should have been a 5 minute meeting with her about several things she needs to improve on, yet it turned into a 30 minute ramble about why she is right and that everyone else is wrong.

I tell my Dad things like that all the time, he wont listen. And ends up getting either cheated out of his money , or feels like people are mocking him. Yet still doesn't get it . Its best to let people just be sometimes

Unfortunately, the owner of the company wants to keep her there for some reason.

My mother. I could easily hit the character limit on some of the things she has done over the years. When she is cooking something that requires measuring liquid many times it turns out to be a disaster. My mother will hold the cup in her hand while she is measuring and for some unknown reason she holds things like cups and what not at an angle which messes up your measurements. As a result of this sometimes she makes cookies hard as a brick, other times they will be way too soft, and other times still it turns out being something that looks hideous but is actually not that bad. Now I suspect I am not the only person in here who likes to cook and I suspect some of you are saying that I should tell my mother to set the measuring cup on the counter and measure that way. Me and my father both cook and have both told her that. Well when she was in school apparently some home-ec teacher told them the way you measure something is to hold the measuring cup in your hand and when you suggest that she put it on the counter she will come back with something along the lines of "Well Miss Dunn said to measure it that way". My father once came back with "Did Miss Dunn tell you to hold things at an angle while you are measuring?"
The next thing with her cooking is for some reason she does not understand the concept of pre-heating an oven. If I am going to cook something I will take the time to pre-heat the oven. My mother will turn the oven on and then immeadiatly put whatever in. Later she will get it out when the directions say to and say it is ready. When you get to looking at it you will realize it is still cold in places and has to be put back in the oven. She then will fuss because something is not done yet. When I make the suggestion about pre-heating the oven I usually get something along the lines of "Whatever can be cooking while the oven is warming up".
