Less joss whedon more Russo Brothers
I'm a DC > Marvel guy but even I'm starting to get tired of DC's tone

Man, even in the Civil War movie, Iron Man comes off as a massive asshole trying to make his argument. Makes me stand my ground more with Civil War: I'm with Captain America. Also, SPIDEY!!!!!!! At least this time I think the marketing IS that Captain America is right

I'm all for less Whedon influence. I loved the first Avengers movie, but Age of Ultron completely soured me on him. Hulk/Widow was stupid, and Quicksilver dying was equally stupid. As for this film: {Spoiler}{Spoiler} I'm really not interested in a whole Steve Rogers dies type deal. I don't like it in the comics, and I don't want it in the movies. There's plenty of stuff to do with these characters BEFORE you bump them off for shock value.

A lot of DC's television output is quite cheery and hopeful despite the occasional bursts of tragedy and consequence, and hell I think the Nolan Bat-flicks have undervalued bursts of optimism and light relief that get ignored in favour of the heavier stuff. Oh true they're not "he fights for family, lives for love" type of films, but everyone pegs them as having the same bleak feel as how The Dark Knight ended and they stick with that, which bugs me.
Civil War is going to be good because it will delve more into consequence, and I feel that's been lacking in a lot of Marvel films, little things that shows like SHIELD had to pick up on to further their own drama. There is much appreciated accountability here

DCAU & DCTVU are what the DCCU should be......tone wise (some of the writing is questionable)
As others have said its as though Warner (Movie side) are ashamed of making comic movies.
IMO the best live action Bat flick is "89" because it balanced itself perfectly.

If every superhero movie was the same light and bubbly quip-fest, we'd all be bored out of our skulls No one is saying they should be.

You have to balance it, though. I think DC has a tendency to go far too grim, but at the same time, Marvel has a bad track record of trying to end nearly every scene in a gag. Neither style works. That's why I'm so excited for the Russos taking over the Avengers characters starting with Civil War. The tone they found in Cap 2 was the perfect balance.

I'm excited for this. But I hope it doesn't comes down to another typical dumbed down extended fight scene between the two groups in lieu of delving into the consequences brought up by the movies premise (which was one of my main problems with Age of Ultron). The idea behind this story is far more interesting than any one fight between the heroes involved.
I don't care who would win between Iron Man and Captain America, that doesn't matter to me. But I do care about the internal anguish an honest soldier faces when he's forced to choose between his country and his friend.

Now if I remember correctly, the big issue with the comic book version was that superheroes would have to give up their secret identity as part of the registration? And that's not an issue in the movie version, because all of their identities are known. So then what is the conflict in the movie? Government restriction/regulation vs free market heroism?

I'm not sure. It looks like a combination of a simplified version of registration (ala, the accountability thing brought up in the trailer), and Cap not wanting to bring Bucky into custody.

There it is, the Bucky thing. I think that makes it work as a more Cap-specific story.

I hear people on Facebook complaining that that the cast( especially the fight scene clip) isn't as big as the comics. I remember hearing you guys say that including the entire marvel universe was a huge mistake in the comics. Somebody elaborate on this, please. Different people have different expectations and different levels of what pleases them.

Not really, I just drew a short mustache on my face and yell "I want pictures of Spider-man!" at small children and animals...

I hope so but don't be surprised if it was cut short to get Spidey more over "Am I f***ing going over?" Spider-Man is like AJ Styles debuting at the Royal Rumble. Spent years in a clearly inferior rival promotion, kept getting screwed around with them, and then finally turns up at one of the biggest PPVs in the company's history to a massive ovation.
