I think it's one of the Oscar's biggest flubs of the decade that Hailee Steinfold was nominated for best SUPPORTING actress in True Grit, when in reality without her, there is no movie. Her work in that film is absolutely stellar. Came here to post this.

Some performances from semi-recent movies I'll throw in are Saoirse Ronan in Atonement and Lina Leandersson in Let the Right One In. Both were fantastic.

Game of Thrones certainly has a lot very talented child actors. I can't think of one I found bad. It probably helps that they all seem to be getting their kicks in their respective role.
I also second Mischa Barton in Lawn Dogs.
Another one I'll second is... hell, pretty much everybody in Harry Potter. And it's good to see they seem to be keeping a steady career even now that the franchise is over.
I very much liked the kid from... well, The Kid.
And surely we can't forget Mara Wilson in Matilda. Even then her charisma already showed. It's all the more admirable that if I'm not mistaken, her mom had just died when they started filming so she wasn't exactly in her best spirits...
Also, I recently watched Sadako 3D 2 and while it's a mediocre-to-okay film, the little girl who plays Nagi is a very pleasant surprise. She's great whether she's supposed to be creepy or cute. Hell, at the end, there's a scene where she starts crying and you just want to give her a big hug and tell "aww no, don't cry! It's alright! Everything's going to be fine!".

I'll tell ya the worst:
that kid from Liar, Liar. So obviously got the job because of his cute bowlcut and adorably sad little face, kid couldn't act for shit.

The first two Narnia movies, I don't know the name of the girl who plays Lucy, but she gives some of the best child acting performances I've ever seen. Weirdly enough in the third one when she's way older, her acting is much shittier.

Best = Corey Feldman in Stand By me
Worst = Jake Lloyd in The Phantom Menace (To be fair, it isn't his fault that the script and overall movie sucked)
