When he first used the walls it was a nice vertical version of the crab then it became just a plain old Boston crab, why? Did he hurt someone doing it the vertical way?

WWE guys were too big for the Liontamer if I remember right.

Yeah going from cruiserweight in WCW to WWE would have made it impossible to do on most guys.

There's been a change later than that, though. His first run in WWE he was definitely standing up a lot straighter when he had the Walls applied. Now it's a lot more Boston Crab-like.

He would still break the original out from time to time when he faced smaller guys like Mysterio.

The original Lion Tamer looked awesome.

He's still done the Lion Tamer plenty of times, especially in the last couple years he's been active. Helps that guys have gotten (slightly) smaller and more flexible. Typically though you only see the Lion Tamer if he's going to win by submission since it's not something that you can really get to the ropes with. That's the other reason he does the regular Boston Crab walls.

On the rare occasion he busted out the original in WWE the announcers would often call it the Liontamer and treat it as a separate move. I definitely remember Matt Striker saying it once (no way he'd miss out an opportunity to swing his wrestling trivia dick around like that) but I'm fairly sure Cole did it too.

If I remember in his book he mentioned injuring X-Pac's neck and he bitched about it to the higher ups and from then on it just became a standing Boston Crab.

He's used the Liontamer later in his WWE career against smaller wrestlers, namely Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, and his old WCW-nemesis Rey Mysterio. The Boston Crab (Walls of Jericho) is easy to perform on larger wrestlers and it is easier to take for wrestlers.

People in this thread seem to be missing the OP's point. He's not asking about the change from the Lion Tamer to the Walls, but from the Walls, to basically just a regular crab.
WCW/very early WWF Jericho - Boston crab style move with knee on the back of the neck.
2000s era Jericho - Standing Boston crab, sometimes knees slightly bent, still with most of the pressure on the neck.
Modern Jericho - Just a seated Boston crab of the same variety used by Rick Martel and dozens of others over the years.
--- And the question is why and when did he make the SECOND transition from the standing walls to just a regular seated boston crab.

When was the last time somebody tapped to the Walls of Jericho, aside from his match with Daniel Bryan on NXT season 1? It was no wonder he added the Code Breaker finisher. The boston crab is a horrible finisher.

Didn't he use the orignal Liontamer on Stacy Keibler one time too? I could've sworn Jericho said it was her idea given how tall and flexible she was.

I'm sure WWE won't show us this highlight any time soon. It wasn't exactly his 'Liontamer,' but her flexibility did make it look especially brutal.

He had to break the Walls down.
Mostly for those about to rock, but also, it's what we want.
