...cause they wouldn't stop saying how great it was?
Mine all came from one certain guy we used to be friends with, subjects included: Stone Cold Steve Austin, Johnny Depp, Wolverine, and Batman.
Now what are your examples?

I can safely say that's never happened to me. Whenever I wound up hating something that got a lot of hype, it's because I just didn't enjoy said movie/series/book/game/musician/whatevs.

The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers, all the hype got my hopes up and I was disappointed when I finally heard it.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
had a friend in school who would quote it non-stop. Got real old real fast and have no desire to read the books. Listened to some of the radio and 20 minutes of the movie, I found both to be boring.

Frozen
I mean I liked the movie, thought it was about as good as Princess and the Frog and Tangled but people kept going on and on about how God literally came from the Heavens and delivered Frozen as his second-coming.

The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya. This jack ass that I used to know made a thread on a forum that was practically a shrine to the show. And he wouldn't stop talking about it on his myspace and later facebook profiles. Him becoming progressively annoying and selfish in his personality only made it worse.

Batman: I used to LOVE Batman! I still like the character, but he's forever tainted for me because of jackass fans who claim absurd stuff like "with prep time, Batman could take down every being in DC and Marvel combined!!!" Fan beloved writers like Frank Miller, Doug Mulok (probably spelled that wrong...author of the stupid Black Light storyline) and dopey mega fans like Kevin Smith have really killed my like for the character.
The Lion King: I was never a fan, but at first I didn't hate the movie. However, the constant commercials and fans telling me how awesome it was. Stupid people singing that annoying as hell song, In the Jungle, ect, just made me despise the movie.
Forest Gump: I've gone back to sort of liking this movie, but that damn commercial where Forest tells the stupid woman "Life is like a box of chocolates..............YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GONNA GET!!!" just made me sick to death of the movie before I even saw it. The media frenzy surrounding it and craze from the fans annoyed the hell out of me too.
Titanic: A great movie, I like it (now) just fine, but holy crap, the stupid women and the media insanity over it was sickening. It still irks me that this movie, while good but not great, still holds the number one highest grossing spot of all time.
Citizen Caine: I've never seen this movie and refuse to see it. It's probably really good, but the critics and fans of it piss me the hell off. "Oh, it's the greatest movie ever created ever...no wait, it's the greatest THING ever created ever...it's the second coming, all hail Citizen Caine! Best movie of all time!" I think that "best of all time" title is kinda dumb, to begin with as it really does vary from person to person and what their tastes are. IMO, if Citizen Caine was so godly, why is it that the critics and mega fans can barely name any of the characters or only quote like one line from the whole damn thing? I know these don't "make" a movie, but to me and my tastes, yeah, they're kinda important. Again, I'm sure it's good, but until the damn hype dies down, I refuse to watch it.

If people didn't hype them as the second coming, pretending the games are more than what they are, along with those ridiculously high, unanimous review scores, I would have thought Persona 3 and 4 were just okay instead of actively begrudging their existence. 4 more than 3 because at least the latter has a couple redeeming qualities even if I'm still not happy about the bait and switch.

I don't dislike it, in fact I still enjoy it but Anime.
Maybe it's spending to much time on deviantart, perhaps it's people thinking they are Japanesse just because they've watched a few Naruto/One Piece episodes, or randomly throwing the word "KAWAII" in the middle of an English sentence. But yeah some Anime fans are annoying as f***.
I still enjoy many Anime's but I go nowhere near the fanbase.

Generally I ignore the hype that goes up about stuff so I try not to let stuff like that affect me.
I remember Dark Knight Rises had a LOT LOT LOT of hype behind though and I didn't really love Begins as much as a lot of people did, but I think even with the hype tidal wave coming up in front of it I gave it a fair shot. I can appreciate certain aspects of it, but on the whole it wasn't especially impactful for me.
Looking back on it though, the only thing that really bothers me about over-hyped things (whether I like them or not) is that there end up being SO many other films that are more interesting to me that get next to no hype so no one will really see it. I gladly trade off something being a worldwide, overstaturated pheneomenon in exchange for a smaller (and in my opinion, better) film getting at least moderate attention.

Pokemon, definitely. I still play the games on occasion, but thanks to my sister, I can't say I really enjoy them that much. Whenever she plays it, she can't stop talking about her team, her moves, her nicknames, and it drives me insane. And I used to really get into the games myself. Now, though...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Tommy Oliver. ESPECIALLY Tommy Oliver. Can't stand the amount of ass-kissing they give Tommy, and I certainly cannot stand the nostalgia hard-on for MMPR, too.

Super Mario Bros. At one point I was a huge fan of Mario. Then one day, some jackass found out I was a Sonic fan and started acting like a real asshole about while constantly flaunting about how Mario is better than every platformer ever. He'd have the other kids gang up and make fun of me about it, all because I liked Sonic better. Even got me beat up over it.
This is why I mostly hate the Mario franchise now and wouldn't shed a single tear if Nintendo were to drop dead all of a sudden.
