I wonder if NC acknowledges It Runs in the Family aka My Summer Story, since it is in some ways also a sequel to A Christmas Story, though it is clearly based on source material from Jean Shepherd, unlike the more recent abomination A Christmas Story 2. Edit: He does not mention It Runs in the Family. I don't think anybody has ever reviewed It Runs in the Family, let alone acknowledge it's existence. It's basically the second half of Shepherd's memoir that inspired A Christmas Story. I mean, you got a family of hicks who are far more brawn than brain, a lengthy story about tops, and Randy being a complete moron who eats the family goldfish at the end.

I absolutely laughed when he said "why don't you marry the old man, then!". I also liked the intro with cinema sins.
Not the best episode, but some of you guys make it sound like a horrible pile of turds.

It was an ok episode, but WAY too sketch heavy. I like Malcolm and Tamara and their interplay with Doug, but we don't need an entire big 'storyline' woven into a review.

That was the worst review I've seen in a long time. Way too skit heavy and they ran the FIRST MOVIE gag so far into the ground it sprung a volcano.
Also, I lost any respect for them when they criticized it for having too much slapstick, and then 30 seconds later did crappy slapstick.

A little Off Topic here but it looks like the Grinch video he did with Cinema Sins has been blocked by Universal Pictures
Edit: It's back up.

I like seeing the actual movie/show/game get trashed first and foremost. AVGN has the same problem sometimes, but in his case, he makes the skits work more often than not, and they are relevant to the game review.

I knew about them, but would not watch them because they just weren't ACS and everyone was different and etc. Now that I know more about Shep in general, would I have a more open mind, or were they just bad movies either way?

If you read Shepherd's memoir, you'd understand the story of the film since he talked about how life was when everything was warm, but considering that the sequel (or rather, follow-up) to a popular movie happened more than a decade later and you had to rehire a different cast, save one person (Ralphie's teacher), I would label it as an all-around bad film, primarily because the execution was off, and while three members of Ralphie's family (save Randy the Load) was dealing with a problem of their own (Ralphie with the top battles, the Old Man dealing with the Bumpus clan, and Ralphie's Mom partaking in a silverware giveaway yet only recieving gravy bowls), it wasn't that memorable. It's a good time-waster, though, and I would love to hear somebody notable finally take a crack at it because I assume that a lot of people think A Christmas Story 2 is the direct sequel and circumvent It Runs in the Family.

I know Brad and Jillian talked about it a bit when they reviewed Christmas Story 2 a couple of years ago. Granted, can't speak for it myself, not seen it. Though I don't remotely like Christmas Story honestly.
