Mega Man 2 is good, but for my money Mega Man 3 is by far the best of the series. Both 1 and 2 just had some blander moments that were ironed out by the 3rd and 4th game. 5 and 6 were unneeded though.

Never having them played in my childhood I thought Mega Man 9 would be a good start for me when it was released a few years ago. I just suck at the game and don't have the patience for it, so I never bothered with the older ones.

Never having them played in my childhood I thought Mega Man 9 would be a good start for me when it was released a few years ago. I just suck at the game and don't have the patience for it, so I never bothered with the older ones. This was my problem too. I owned the games for many years before I decided to actually sit down and bust my ass on them. Prior to that, I tried at 2 multiple times because that seems to be the easiest game, sold the most copies and is usually considered the best to a lot of fans. However, I didn't work too hard at it and usually gave up after 3 or 4 levels. When I eventually went back to it a while back, I decided to start with 1. That was a pain in the ass in a lot of ways. Thankfully, going in order actually helps make sure you aren't completely dependable on the skills they give you in the later games, such as the slide or the charge. The first game took me forever, but after that sadistic trial, I beat 2 with ease. In a lot of ways, I wasn't having fun. That changed with the third game, not only was the challenge there, but the fun factor was too. 4 had a great fake ending, but I would probably stop there. So I would recommend the first 4 games. I stopped the regular series after 6, so I don't know what 8-11 have to offer, outside of the same kind of gameplay.

I prefer 2 to 3, but both are the highlight of the original series to me, so that's like picking a favorite between two cuts of great steak. I think loving the Flash Man and Crash Man themes push it over for me.

I think one of the reasons I didn't like the game was because of that ending. The "alien" Wily was pretty weird and I hated that the only way you could defeat him was with bubbles. It took me 8 weapon tries to figure that out.

I a never sure whether to admire Dr Wily's persistence or laugh at his blatant dumb assery
