I had Outback tonight. I was seriously disappointed in my $23 steak. Sounds like you had a filet or porterhouse.

I refuse to eat there due to the lack of Kangaroo on the menu. Tough luck. Outback is the poseur of the theme restaurant. They may have an Aussie theme, but the menu focuses more on Creole seasonings and American themes with stock boomerangs and photos of Ayer's Rock. Not nowhere near as bad as South of the Border in South Carolina, but it is there. So, kangaroo steaks and emu burgers aren't gonna happen. Funny thing is they're moving so far from the theme that is crazy. When I started there a lot of the items were named after Aussie landmarks and the such. (Rockhampton Ribeye, Ayer's Rock Strip, etc). Most of the Aussie slang terms they used weren't even used a lot in Australia anymore according to my Tazmanian pal. It also kinda sucks they don't carry a selection of Aussie beers anymore.

I love outback's lamb too. Couldn't let the thread go another page without adding how great the Outback Rack is.

This thread is a learning experience for me. I've never had Outback. To be fair, it was more awesome before they decided to take the company public again. Now they're too busy giving investors handjobs to remember what made us great. Everything used to be made fresh in house. Now a lot is pre made (soups, salad dressings) and shipped to us. Saves money on prep cooks but it's not the same. Also doesn't help stores are starting to open for lunch 7 days a week leaving less prep time. I remember when I started there it explicitly stated in the employee handbook why we were only open for dinner. (So managers could have lives and families and crap.) On that note, I need to get some sleep so I can finish renewing my reign of evil now that I've starting managing front of house again. The rest of the FOH managers are alcoholics for a reason...

What, wait? $14?!!?? An order of fries, ok, that's like $4. Cheese, is like a $1. Bacon, I'm guessing it's bacon bits, retail value on what they'd put on, like 75 cents....where does $14 come from??!! Because I live in Korean and foreign food tends in a semi-fancy restaurant tends to be randomly expensive. The ribs were about 34 dollars. It's been a while since I've bought ribs at a restaurant, but I think that's kind of high too. Still...for the French fries...it's not like potatoes, bacon, and cheese are exotic goods. How the hell did it get that expensive? I got hooked on Outback cheese fries while living there (one of the few ways to get the fix in the country), and they were about the same price as they are Stateside when seeing them.

I don't think there's an Outback in my country, but at $14 for fries, uh, they better call in the morning.

Perhaps it's a much larger serving than it used to be? I never took into account how much fries I was getting, because I felt like no amount of fries was worth that much.

They're meant to be split at a table.

The last time I had them, and I do mean last time EVER, I got sick as a dog that night. The next morning what came out of me I can only describe as a mixture of battery acid, Lava rocks and pure god damn evil shooting from a potato gun. Yeah, never again. But they were great when I was eating them. So you lost five times the weight you gained from eating it?

When I went to Florida, Outback was basically the only good food I tasted.
