I'm really excited! I was able to pick this up after work at Best Buy when it opened. I remember paying $180 for the DVDs, can't believe the Blu-ray is just $45. I haven't watched the series since 2006, I'm really looking forward to an all-night-through-early morning marathon after that goddamn live Smackdown ends.

Bebop is over a decade old, but it still holds up incredibly well.

I used TANK! as my backyard wrestling entrance music. Love the soundtrack.

Nice.
This is on my X-Mas wish list right now. If I don't get it by then I'm definitely picking it up. I've got some Japanese bootleg dvds from back in like 2000, but I want to update it for sure.

Probably time to update the wish list. That's if I can actually wait that long for this.

Has one of the best end tracks in an anime. Mushroom Samba will always be my favorite episode though

Bebop is over a decade old, but it still holds up incredibly well. Good sci-fi and good animation hold up better over time than most any other genre and medium, Bebop has the distinct advantage of being both. Couple this with great music, which does hold up better than anything else, and it's no surprise.

Can't help but think how gorgeous the whole thing would be had they not gone for that. Such are growing pains, but aliasing sucks.

My marathon has reached Mushroom Samba and my thoughts are:
1. This actually appreciates with aging. FLCL left me alienated, where I feel like at 28 I get a lot more of what's going on than I did at, goddamn, 13, when I first watched it. That said, I'm not sure that I can actually accept that nearly half of my life has occurred since the afternoon that I purchased all 6 DVDs from Borders in July 2002.
2. The Blu-ray is really great, though I need to raise the volume a bit (75 vs the usual 70 on my Onkyo).
3. I LOVE MY PROJECTOR!
4. When I started this I forgot to think about the sad parts. I'm not emotionally prepared for the conclusion of Faye's arc, at all.

Speak Like A Child is an excellent episode. Man, now I'm tempted to buy the blu-ray set. Bebop is one of the few shows I could rewatch over and over.

Couple this with great music, which does hold up better than anything else, and it's no surprise. I compare Bebop to The Watchmen in that the characterization was really the key element. In the english dub in particular, the actors were all perfectly cast and each one of them fit the characters to the T. They were not archetypes-each character had they're own unique personality, quirks, and issues that made them very humanized and compelling. I also think the animation is reminiscent of Batman TAS in that they managed to make a nice mesh of the classic and the contemporary in a way that gives it a very timeless feel, allowing it to hold up against even the enhanced animation of today. And it definitely set a new standard for the use of music in anime. And I actually admire that the creators were dedicated enough to the unique vision they had brought to life that they decided not to follow up and leave it to stand as it is.
