You know it's bad when even other terrorist groups distance themselves from it. Well yeah, even among criminals, it's a line you don't cross. It doesn't matter how crazy they are, most people still don't want anything to do with child murderers. It's one of the unwritten rules of Humanity as a whole: you don't. Hurt. The children.

That, and it's like with Al Qaida and Isis where the recruitment pool for people willing to do these things or die for a cause is only so deep, so you have to consider how you are perceived, same as any other organization, and rivalry exists.

Wasn't this school guarded by soldiers? Seems strange for a military school in a conflict area to be completely undefended.

Well, there were seven assailants and they were all killed at the school before all students and staff were killed. There were enough forces nearby to take them down relatively quickly, either by design or dumb luck.

Well, I mean this is a group of people who has refused peace talks, broken ceasefires and continues to show absolutely zero regard to anyone outside of their beliefs. So a civil people, then? This group deserves death in the worst way.

Proof that man is becoming more and more evil. I don't personally think that's true. If it really was, hey, 140 less evil people to worry about, right? This would be good news. People have a tremendous capacity for good and bad and they always have. Get enough of them together, and they'll orchestrate a pogrom, and another group might build an orphanage, have a food drive, build a school, etc. You get the vile as well as the good out of people.

Proof that man is becoming more and more evil. No. We are much better off than we were in centuries past. The Mongols would exterminate everything from end to end of their formation as a matter of doctrine. Once the bulk of anyone could no longer offer any resistance, then they took slaves. I'm talking tens of thousands killed with axes, clubs, swords, spears. This attack was a one shot deal designed to do exactly what it has. It was not a blanket slaughter as part if a doctrine of Kill em all. It was a measured response. So no, we are not getting worse. The fact that this is so gross as to be considered singularly distinct suggests a small group of people not a massive wave of belief that this is what they will always do. If an entire nation did this on that scale and nobody cared, then I'd agree with your statement

Exactly. I doubt the same level of condemnation for barbarism on such a horrid scale would have existed centuries, perhaps even decades ago. Things like this do show we've got a long road ahead and there are still many ills in the world, as there always will be, sadly, but society's by and large gradually improved for the better over time. It's the slowness of said improvements that can be demoralizing.

There was a really nice candle vigil just down the road from me in D.C. I know it's easy to say that humanity sucks because members of it could even think of doing something as vicious as this but, there are more people who aren't like that than are.

I imagine the assailants may have planned this for a while and watched for an opening.

I think you underestimate just how quickly a well armed group of 7 could kill that many at the school. They basically averaged what the shooter at Sandy Hook did by himself and they had the advantage of being able to coordinate to prevent students from escaping (i.e., run away from shooter 1 to the right and run into shooter 2 or run to the left and run into shooter 3). Truth be told, I am a little surprised that the casualty numbers were not higher.

That's my point. If the danger of mass loss of life was so great, I don't understand why the army didn't have a heavy military presence there.

These taliban needs to be eradicated from the face of the earth , these are not humans - & have no business claiming they are doing things in the name of islam ( Im sorry if this violates any rules here ). I am a muslim of Pakistani descent - these people do not represent my people . Theae low life thrash are a problem for America and Pakistan equally, Agreed 100%. A few years ago I was doing vaccinations in Peshwar and Warzinastan and ran afoul of the Taliban. Luckily an Imam, or an elder I am sorry if I confuse the two, spoke in my defense and I was let go.
