It's probably the most popular short film of the year!

No, it was a huge waste of time.

It's takes a lot to get a nomination.

Has to air in a theater to be nominated no? Yep, before it airs anywhere else too.

Right. Doesn't matter who thinks it's awesome or who thinks it sucks. It can't be nominated.

Has to air in a theater to be nominated no? Yep, before it airs anywhere else too. The "has to play in a theatre first" rule for features also applies to shorts as well? I imagine the prospects for theatrical distribution are negligible (accept maybe in independent/art house cinemas) seeing as how movie theatres no longer follow the old "A newsreel, a short, a cartoon and a feature for the same price!" model.

Looking at the recent nominees for Animated Short, it looks like they're primarily shown at Festivals or Expos. Some also accompany feature films (of the nominees last year, Get A Horse! accompanied Frozen, and Room on the Broom accompanied Thor: the Dark World)

It would be up for Outstanding Special Class: Short Form Live Action Emmy.

Yep. Cannes, Sundance, the Springfield Film Festival, that sort of thing.

It does, has to be a commercial theater in LA and has to have a minumum 3-day run. I'd presume that there are smaller theaters that accomodate it to qualify.
