Just an observation, but it seems that WWE has been shooting itself in the foot to spite it's leg over and over.
Do you all agree?

Absolutely. Nexus? Wasted. Summer of Punk? Wasted. Brock Lesnar returns? Wasted. Bray Wyatt? Wasted. The list goes on and on. In fact, the only thing they haven't botched in recent memory is The Shield.

I think in 10-15 years these will be known as the "end of Vince" days

A lot of guys with unmaximized or unrealized potential.
Everyone on the roster except Cena is in a lower spot than they were previously.

2002-Present has been one huge cluster**** of missed opportunitys on wrestlers and angles. Once Vince wasn't desperate like he was in 1997, and after WWF was kind of accepted into pop culture/by mainstream media, only to be booted back out, he's been obsessed with being accepted again.

In fact, the only thing they haven't botched in recent memory is The Shield. I think they botched even that. Sure all three are doing fine on their own but they broke them up too soon after they turned face. I was looking forward to that run, or at least an epic feud with the Wyatts and Evolution. They raced through that in like a month.

They couldn't even think of a good reason for it either when Seth gave his interview with Michael Cole the next week.

2010-2014 Missed Opportunity Era
2015-? Roman Empire Era If they go ahead with that push right now, it'll be more like the Rome Is Burning Era.

I'd say it's closer to 15 years. They haven't done a good job of much of anything since WCW went under

It's the "We're terrified of investing in anyone besides Cena" era.

Remember how absolutely white-hot AJ was during the whole Punk/Cena/Kane/Bryan days? And how they ground that to a halt with the whole GM thing? She's never truly fully recovered from that.
Also, the whole Fandango debacle.

By Mania 29, they would've already had their momentum squashed by SuperCena (and two random partners...but still Cena with the W).

It certainly is a missed opportunity era.
Considering the company has arguably assembled the most talented roster ever, there is no way the product should have been such a grind to watch over the past few years.

I thank all that is good that that nightmare ended. IMO AJ has been at her most tolerable the past few years. Not ruining shows with terrible promos, and not being inserted into every possibly interesting situation. The era of "HEY HERE'S AJ LEE! LOOK AT HER ASS! ISN'T AJ GREAT! HEY WHAT ABOUT AJ! (camera zooms into ass) HEY DON'T FORGET ABOUT AJ!" was downright miserable to bear if you weren't a huge fan.

The Shield losing to anyone before their first loss would've screwed up their momentum, imo. They were going to lose at some point, but having them last as long as they did undefeated really solidified that they were a big deal and having Daniel Bryan be the one to win the match that ended their undefeated streak was absolutely the right call.

I'd consider the Death of WCW through now the Missed Opportunity Era. What few stars they've made in that time have been ridden half to death. Every single hot angle they've accidentally gotten has been botched. It doesn't matter though. All that matters is Vince has finally gotten everything he ever wanted and doesn't have to overly concern himself with that crazy pro wrasslin that brought his fortune.
He's got his movies, his cartoons and his Network. He's got his WWE brand...a brand that's bigger than any one star. You're all replaceable. The quality doesn't matter as long as Vince is happy.

Great analysis. What else can an overriding directive of "Well, don't piss anyone off" inspire beyond apathy?

Since I decided that everything wrong with WWE (and the world in general) is Kevin Dunn's fault, I ain't changing my tune. I solely blame Kevin Dunn for whispering everything that Vince wanted to hear so that Vince couldn't tell him to piss off. By hearing everything he wanted, Vince got complacent and WWE fell prey to some lazy and questionable booking.
Like most, I think that right now, all 3 Shield members are in a somewhat enviable position in singles but they could've lasted several months longer as a unit. They had barely scratched the surface with The Shield as a babyface stable. It still had legs. Hell...maybe The Wyatt Family would still be together if The Shield hadn't split.
