Christian is one of my all time favorite wrestlers. He was the one of the first heels I cheered for back when I was a mark. Dammit selfishly I just want to see him have "One More Match" and retire on top. I WANT CHRISTIAN HAVE A ONE DAY WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP REIGN BUT IT'S ONLY ONE DAY BECAUSE f*** YOU HE'S RETIRING AS THE MOTHERf***ING CHAMPION BECAUSE HE IS SIMPLY DA BEST!!!!!
I f***ING LOVE YOU CHRISTIAN!!!!!

He's still #1 contender for the Intercontinental Title. This is true, and seeing Christian v Ziggler for the title would be awesome again I always thought they put on good matches together and help Ziggler move up the ladder.
But of course if he is at the point of retiring or has and hasn't come out to say anything yet, then he is HOF worthy and already a Grand Slam Champion. It does suck he never got a decent run at the World Heavyweight Championship....but with countless injuries building up over the years he became basically what Rey is now comes back for a month or two, gets injured, out for the rest of the year.

In a drunken stupor, I decided to look up some of my favorite wrestling matches for my girlfriend, and Christian vs Ryder in WWECW was one of them. I've been a Christian fan from his WWE run to his ECW run and back to WWE, he'll never be remembered as a great but he could've been if things had been different.

Not to be too tin foil hat-ish here, but I've always believed that the Christian vs. Orton feud of 2011 was WWE's way of making Christian look as terrible as possible in order to completely slaughter any hype he had.
Judging by how his career has gone since then, Vince is a more solid life-ruiner than he gets credit for.

I'm sorry. Man, I hate the very notion of a dislike button. But, if this forum had one, I would be mashing it so hard right now.

Better than Edge in most respects to me. Whereas Edge got stale when he went to SD, Christian was always fun, and became must watch whenever he was given a world title.
I'm still adament that the ultimate opportunist gimmick was far more deserving to him and he should have been the weasel that stole the belt off Cena.

Every time people within the WWE bring up grabbing the 'Brass Ring', I think of Christian, he was there, he had his fingers around the ring and they pulled it from his hands and told him in no uncertain terms that it was not for him for completely asinine reasons then the WWE proceeded to place it in the hands of Randy Orton over and over and over despite the fact he's never been a draw and probably never will be. He took a chance on TNA, main evented there to show the WWE exactly what he could do then returned to be the face of ECW for a bit, being denied the chance to go down in history as the final ECW champion despite going all out to try and make that belt mean something. He finally got a genuine world title after defeating the guy who (keyfabe) caused the retirement of his closest friend, only to lose it to Randy Orton on Smackdown a few days later because trying to get Randy over at the 45th attempt was more important than letting an emotional moment stand and giving Christian a genuine chance to shine.
I hope he follows Edge into acting full time and carves out a niche somewhere that rewards genuine skill at a craft and the ability to connect with the audience.

Not expecting this to be popular but to me he was typical your 'internet threatens to kill themselves if he isn't pushed, and then he is and miraculously nobody gives a shit' guy. It was the first example I remember in this era of fans wetting themselves if their favourite isn't promoted up the card. From memory he seemed to be the first recipient of that sort of heat that a few others have since 'enjoyed'
I don't think it helped him. I don't think it's helped anyone long-term. It is what it is, if a company doesn't want you in a spot but feels strong-armed into putting you there - it won't go well.

People wanted him to main event... in 2005. 5 years spent feuding for third tier belts (TNA and ECW) and one title run where they didn't let him hold the belt for a full week later, it became clear it was never going to happen so the fans gave up because they no longer believed that he was ever going to get a fair shot. The fans moved on to newer heroes, which was what the WWE wanted all along.
It's not the fans fault, it's certainly not Christian's, it's the WWE's 'spite the fans' booking. They would rather browbeat the fans into accepting certain talents being placed in main event slots than go along with what the fans want. Keep reaching for that Brass Ring, millenials and remember, all talent are equal, but some are more equal than others.

I'm sorry. Honestly, this probably affected me more than ANYTHING they did with Daniel Bryan over the last 18 months, and I like Bryan WAY more. Like it's possibly the only time where I went "OK, I need some other wrestling for a while". Very next day, I ordered that year's CHIKARA King Of Trios.

Crying with happiness when he finally won the the world title led to turning WWE off for months after they took the belt off him after two days.

Christian is, was, and probably always will be one of my favorite wrestlers. He can play face and heel equally well (in the rarest of occasions when booking decides to make him look competent), carried WWECW on his back when he first returned (as others have mentioned), and as much as I hate the feud with Randy itself, he can spin straw into gold in the ring. His matches with Orton in 2011 ranged from above average to great. Heck, the last time I ever cared about Alberto Del Rio was when he was feuding with Christian last year heading into SummerSlam. And the resulting match, though kinda lost in-between Bryan/Cena and Punk/Lesnar, was fantastic.
If this is the end for him, I'll miss him. But if it's about his health (and perhaps because of wanting to be with his daughter), I won't fault him that.

If he has retired, good on him for legitimising the 'Jannetty.' Don't gotta be HBK to have a great career.
