It's probably been said a lot by people but this year, at least since 'Mania, has just felt like the laziest year in terms of booking for the first time in a while and it hardly feels like any effort is put into structuring a show.
A few feuds are repeated over again, never really feeling like building but just going and by the time you end, you've forgotten the main motivation of the storyline because nobody brings it up. Things just happen. I'm not expecting a deep continuity but it'd be nice if things felt like they were progressing. The only person on the entire roster's whose had a consistent storyline this year was Rusev and they've at least kept his wheel grinding to a minimum since the Rumble is around the corner.
The worst thing about it is that, and this might sound strange, everything feels mechanical. Nothing really happens with a flow of even your basic soap opera plot. This might even apply more to the 'IWC' (Ugh...) who know about this stuff in depth, but it feels blatant that something is happening to keep that person busy whilst another person is doing this and then they're waiting for this other guy to come back to do this. There's none of WWE's usual flair of trying to make it seem somewhat unpredictable even if it isn't, it almost feels like you're watching blocks being put in rapidly on a TV schedule to fill time rather than them saying 'This is the show we have now, let's enjoy'.
I would almost say that they've forgotten how to make a show flow but if you look at 'Mania, Summerslam and Survivor Series (the ME in particular), their worst storyline periods seem to lead to strangely good shows when everything should be good so then people actually want to watch those.
Like...I don't know. It's late and I wanted to get this out there for a while and probably worded it wrongly but what I am basically saying is that it's bizarre how comparing even RAW from 3 years ago, the show at least felt like there was life to it and stuff went on. Now...it's grinding it's wheels towards shows where they grind their wheels. It's kind of bizarre.
