Since it is a pretty slow day, I'm kicking around youtube awhile and wandered into a pretty nice highlight reel of this feud, which apparently happened during one of my hiatuses from watching The WWE. So I never saw this live. I haven't seen the match, but Hunter completely no sold this storyline. Through everything, his facial expression barely changes. The guy who couldn't be bothered to make Scott Steiner look like a star - this is the guy who's in charge of making new stars now? I know The WWE is going through a downturn in business. They completely deserve it.

Watch the match. You will instantly understand why Hunter had no interest in getting this story over. Sure, he did bury plenty of people who deserved a rub around this time, but an ageing, injury-ravaged, out-of-shape Scott Steiner was not one of them. Steiner sucked so monumentally at the Rumble that the rematch at No Way Out had people cheering for Hunter, one of the most hated people in wrestling both in terms of character and the real-life person, over the supposed babyface Steiner.

Steiner got blown up like 2 minutes into their matches, and his offense was pretty much belly to belly suplexes. It wasn't like Lesnar's suplex rampage to Cena, where Lesnar was showing dominance. It was a horrible horrible feud, made worse by this being in the middle of the worst ring work Triple H has ever done (outside of his matches against HBK, his best matches were decent in 2002-2003), and Steiner having drop foot. The matches were horrible.
Let's put it this way, at No Way Out in Montreal, the crowd was completely on Triple H's side. I remember JR saying it was because Steiner had the American flag in the Superman logo on his tights. No, it was because Steiner was horrible at that time.

Even for wrestling it was a homo erotic feud.

It did end up giving us that one interview where Steiner talked about being addicted to Flindstines vitamins and sleeping on women's asses

Bad foot? Hasn't wrestled a full match in months? Have him go 20 minutes, that will make him look good!

Even for wrestling it was a homo erotic feud. This segment was probably the closest we've ever come to having two wrestlers simply start f***ing in the middle of the ring.

I watched this match and event literally a few days ago. Triple H works hard in the match but it was an absolute disaster. What possessed them to do it again at No Way Out?

Trying to make the Big Poppa Pump character a face didn't make much sense either. Steiner is great, but he's a natural heel.

Jesus, this was a terrible match up. Steiner nearly killed H several times. The Pose down they had and the night Batista powerbombed Scott out of his pants were the best things to come from this feud.

The Royal Rumble match did at least give us the "Stumble-Bomb."

I swear this feud is the reason HHH is so upset about Rybacks carelessness.

As the WCH, it's Hunter's job to help get the story over. The paycheck of every person in the company hinges on him getting the story over. That's why he's put in that position. Maybe the real storyline was the buildup to the formation of Evolution and giving him momentum into Wrestlemania.

This is a case where I hesitate to blame Triple H. Steiner was not ready for any kind of main event feud, having been out injured and not really a healthy when he came in. He was very out of his element. Even for wrestling it was a homo erotic feud. This segment was probably the closest we've ever come to having two wrestlers simply start f***ing in the middle of the ring. Not to mention, Batista powerbombing Steiner out of his pants, or when Steiner tore off Triple H's suit and exposing the tiniest underwear ever. It was very odd.
