So in a few days, the academy starts nominating all the stuff for the awards. So it's time to do a yearly tradition here with predictions for Best Picture. Listed above are 20 movies that have garnered a lot of buzz, and the majority of them will be getting nominations, but which of these will get the Best Picture nod?
My prediction is A Most Violent Year, Birdman, Boyhood, Foxcatcher, Grand Budapest Hotel, Into the Woods, Selma, and The Theory of Everything. Out of those, I predict Birdman gets the award.

I think Boyhood wins Best Picture. My other selections were Birdman, Foxcatcher, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gone Girl, Whiplash, Wild, The Theory Of Everything, Selma, and The Imitation Game.

I'm guessing: Boyhood Selma Gone Girl The Imitation Game The Theory of Everything Birdman The Grand Budapest Hotel
I'm pulling this right out of my ass but I say that Imitation Game gets the award.

Birdman Boyhood Gone Girl The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game Selma The Theory of Everything
These are the ones I think will be nominated right now. If more movies were to get nominated, they would probably be Foxcatcher and Whiplash.
Guess it should also be noted that the only one of the movies I've seen that I've listed is Gone Girl. Man, living in a rural area sucks.

You left off Pride! It is nominated for Best Film at The Globes after all. At the moment my money is on Boyhood winning the big one.

Even if it weren't perfect in execution, Boyhood was just so ambitious that it has to be rewarded.

Remember when we got excited when John Goodman appeared in two straight Best Pictures (THE ARTIST and ARGO)
Well last year we failed to notice that Scoot McNairy did the same thing (he was in ARGO and 12 YEARS A SLAVE)... But he can do what Goodman and previously Ralph Fiennes (HURT LOCKER and THE KINGS SPEECH) could not do .. Complete the Hat Trick.. He's in GONE GIRL... Yeah probably won't win, but it's something.

As someone who hasn't seen every movie on that list yet. I'm curious which ones people would most recommend as well? Especially for someone who enjoys comedy (even if it is dark like Birdman) and stays clear of more action/thriller type stuff.

I'm not sure which movies you haven't seen but I'm going to say Birdman is defiantly one of those movies that's better in repeated viewings and I look forward to seeing it again. I'm going to recommend Whiplash because it doesn't have much buzz as the other films but it's a really good movie. JK Simmons plays one of the least sympathetic/redeeming characters I have ever seen but doesn't go too far or hammy that draws away the attention of the movie itself or the other actors which is incredible. It's beautifully edited and paced and who doesn't like snazzy Jazz Music? Also Miles Teller should be considered for an Oscar nomination. This is the only second movie I seen him (the other being 21 & Over) and he has impressed me so much I'm considering him one of the most underrated actors right now!

Especially for someone who enjoys comedy (even if it is dark like Birdman) and stays clear of more action/thriller type stuff. One's I've seen: Boyhood (see immediately, it's incredible) Whiplash (see, it's great as SuperSweet said) Birdman (damn good, see) Gone Girl (damn good, would suggest but don't take the message of the movie/story the wrong way) Grand Budapest Hotel (damn good, would suggest if you like Wes Anderson movies...if not, don't) Fury (it's okay, see it if you're big time into guy war movies and such) Wild (good, would suggest) Theory of Everything (it's okay, a bit hollow but the two leads are great and it's almost worth seeing just for that) Nightcrawler (damn good, basically a mini Taxi Driver) Interstellar (I really liked it, but it's divisive and it gets a little too on the nose at points near the end so I can see why it wouldn't be liked) Imitation Game (decent but again doesn't delve into his life the way it should have ala Theory of Everything...almost worth seeing just for Cumberbatch) Into the Woods (decent watch if you're into musical, and Pine is definitely damn good in it) Plan on seeing in the next couple of weeks Selma Inherent Vice Big Eyes American Sniper A Most Violent Year/Foxcatcher/Mr. Turner (if it actually comes around here...) That's about the best I can do offhand. I think Boyhood might be the best movie I have seen in the last decade. As for movies I think will be nominated.... Locks Boyhood Birdman Gone Girl Selma Probable Theory of Everything Imitation Game Long shots Wild St. Vincent (for some reason this has been getting random noms) Whiplash No chance Everything else

Is it bad to say like half the list One I actually have seen that I think has some chance of a nomination is the one Wrong Swanson mentioned, St. Vincent. It just seems like such an oscar bate movie. Plus, it's actually pretty good. Although by the end it does get to be a little bit too much like you could just hear the screenwriter thinking, "This will make the audience's laugh and say, "That Vincent, he's so crabby, yet lovable."

Except maybe Interstellar and possibly Birdman if I see it a second time.

Bleh, I didn't really like St. Vincent much. All of it seemed a bit forced and I love Murray, but meh. He has done a lot better work than that.

It seems like Whiplash is getting a lot of buzz all of the sudden. It was not nominated for Best Picture at the Golden Globes, but. I think it might pull off a nomination at the Oscars. I went ahead and voted for it as my wildcard. I still feel like Gone Girl, Selma, The Imitation Game, Birdman, Boyhood, and The Imitation Game are strong contenders for nominations. I could possibly see Foxcatcher being nominated, though I haven't seen it and can't really say right now.
Edit: I got the chance to see Inherent Vice tonight. I don't expect it to be nominated for Best Picture.
