With WWE now doing three man commentary tables for all major shows, just how would a set-up have looked in the "vintage" WWF days?
Sure, the original WWF Raw set had a three man booth (McMahon, Heenan and Rob some comic) but that didn't last long and the concept only took off, worked successfully with the launch of WCW Nitro two year later w/ WWF then using McMahon, Ross and Lawler together.
So...
Try these potential trios on for size: Monsoon, Ventura, McMahon Schiavone, Ventura, McMahon Monsoon, Heennan, Ventura McMahon, Heenan, Mooney McMahon, Ross, Heenan Monsoon, Sammartino, Ventura Monsoon, Ross, Johnny Polo Monsoon, Ventura, Mean Gene McMahon, Monsoon, Hayes McMahon, Ross, Savage Monsoon, Piper, Ventura

Superstars was a 3 man announce booth for a long while in the early 90s. Challenge was 3 men too for a while, twice. Several PPVs of around the same period were too and later on when Ross became an analyst he'd join McMahon calling play-by-play and a heel, either Perfect or Lawler.
3 men announce teams in WWE has always been common
Monsoon - Schiavone - Heenan Monsoon - Neidhart - Heenan Vince - Piper - Perfect Vince - Savage - Piper Vince - Savage - Perfect Vince - Savage - Bartlett Vince - Savage - Heenan Monsoon - Piper - Heenan Ross - Heenan - Savage Ross - Monsoon - Heenan

Not forgetting the seminal Monsoon-Savage-Donovan line-up.

1991 was a year of 3 man commentary teams.
McMahon - Savage - Piper on Superstars Monsoon - Heenan - Neidhart on Challenge Monsoon - Heenan - Piper at SSlam '91
I always thought Savage and Piper worked great together on Superstars. Piper also worked well at SSlam. Neidhart was nothing special, and had Monsoon and Heenan to cover any weaknesses.

I was watching a Raw from early 98 the other day and I believe it was a 3 man team with Kevin Kelly being the third man.

Sadly I remember the 3 man commentary teams in the first year of Raw with the "Comedian" Rob Bartlett all too well That guy was as funny as a burning orphanage.

Then King joined JR during the War Zone. I just recently watched an old Raw from this era. Marc Mero called Kevin Kelly a "third string announcer" and "Fat boy" and then gave him a low blow. Good times.

I really liked the Vince/JR/King table that announced some PPVs in 96-97. Vince and King were firmly face and heel, respectively, and JR was in the middle analyzing everything, and bitching about anything that didn't make sense.

The original Superstars announce team was Vince/Bruno/Ventura. And the original Challenge announce team was Monsoon, Ernie Ladd, and Johnny V.
