I honestly don't think Vince had any idea how utterly flaming Shawn Michaels came across through most of the 1990s. Hell, with Sherri it reeked of her being his beard, this older woman with a guy dressed like a refugee from the Blue Oyster Bar. I mean the guy had Diesel as his bodyguard, a hulking man clad in black leather and used to be a trucker.

Good grief, my dad was hardly a smark or anything but he used to crack jokes about Shawn surely being Vince's gay lover or something, given HBK's incessant push and Vince's over the top love for the guy on commentary.

i unfortunately don't have a video link, but i know there's a youtube video that's like, biggest wwf heat ever, or some name like that, and it features both a montreal interview where shawn says this line, and of course the bret tease from a different montreal raw

as for the question at hand...considering myself an advocate of gay rights, allow me to say...yeah, shawn was pretty gay at the time. however, the reason we know he's not gay, is because every time wrestling features an even slightly effete or gay character, said character is soundtracked by the heel announcer making nonstop, horrible, offensive, homophobic jokes. granted, there was a raw when bret called shawn and hunter homos, but the announcers treated that as a dire insult, and not a funny barb like the ones their past and future colleagues made at adrian adonis or goldust or lenny lane or rico or etc.
