So therefore, no he DEFINITELY wasn't meant to be gay and Vince clearly thought that this was how ALL heterosexual males in their twenties behave (or at least should behave) according to him: Wearing chaps, writhing around in short shorts and posing for Playgirl. "I was Young! I was Dumb! You told me WOMEN read that magazine!" - HBK in 2006

Aren't there those rumours about Vince and Shawn in the 90s, linked to how HBK got his push? Most likely stemming from jealousy at this guy they hated being three times more talented than any of them. So Road Warriors, Bret Hart, Warrior, Jim Cornette, Bam Bam Bigelow, and several others who made similar statements were jealous? It's one thing if it's one or two guys saying it, you'd have to admit it's another thing entirely when several other wrestlers who were at the top, very popular, and had successful careers were saying the same thing.

Yes. All of them disliked Shawn personally at the time. Shawn was naturally talented and had the WWF behind him. It was an easy way to have a pop at him, similar to "Triple H held me down" in the 00s

I don't think Shawn was supposed to be portrayed as being gay, but I bet you could just assume he was and his character would work almost exactly the same.

I was watching some WWF 96 shows and his character came off, to me, as WWF having a top babyface that just happened to be gay. It wasn't his gimmick or anything, he just happened to be a gay man that was about to headline WM. Made his entrances and Vince's boner for him make a lot more sense.

I am not saying that Shawn was gay or anything, however, it does scream volumes about his character and behind the scenes when several legends are saying the same thing. It wasn't just one or two people saying it, you had guys like Bret, Road Warriors, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Jim Cornette saying it there had to have been something there. Those guys have nothing to lie about it when you think about it. Triple H holding people down in the 00's was definitely not some bitterness from an ex WWE employee. The fact that no one has a good thing to say about him behind the scenes is telling.

Was it 1996 where Shawn started wearing the leather cap and chaps and generally looked and acted more male stripper-y?
