so what if they don't have stomachs you could grate cheese on They've got "dad strength". Same kind of thing folks like Demolition and Arn Anderson had. I dunno man, I enjoyed their debut. Entrance was good, I'd maybe keep the lights lower. I've always like their theme, and the titantron was neat. But yeah, awesome. I honestly only started liking them in NXT after they dropped all the supernatural shit and basically became heavy metal enthusiasts who beat people up.

I don't get what was so amazing about their schtick in NXT that WWE is ruining it.
From what I gather, they were just big dudes. One of them said Yah a bunch. The end. Riveting stuff.

Never expected them to be some legendary team. Pretty much expected them to debut, do a handful of squash matches, go over for the tag belts, have a short run, drop them, and then move into midcard obscurity. But last night was pretty lackluster. Debut match was thrown out as an afterthought and dead silence from the crowd. Makes me yearn at least for their old entrance with the lenses and strobe light.

Also, something seems "off" with their wrestling style now, given the new take on the gimmick. Not sure what it is exactly, but the spark doesn't seem to be fully firing just yet. I think I know what you mean. You're kind of expecting them to just come in and kill people dead like Demolition or The Legion Of Doom would have, but they just... didn't. I don't know if it was because Sandow was the guy bumping or whatever, but I think it could have looked better if someone like Ziggler was in there.

Count me in the minority who didn't think they were anything special even on NXT

Hawk and Animal. Ax and Smash. Warlord and Barbarian.
Konnor and Viktor.
Trademarking fake real names is awesome. Can't wait for a wrestler named Peter to become a regular. No last name, just Peter. Or Glen. Money waiting to happen.

So I knew Viktor did some more stuff before getting signed. I dd some research aka looked up wikipedia, and he was trained by the Harts in Calgary and has been wrestling since 2001. So like, he's an example of a guy who has worked hard to get where he is, and it is admirable to finally see all that hard work pay off.
Konnor is another guy who was originally signed to a developmental deal in 2005, quit in 2008 with his wife Krissy Vaine, and then got resigned in 2010 and had been in developmental since. So like, this is a long time coming for both guys, and that's why I want them to be successful.

Are they vampires?
I think they're supposed to be vampires.

Wow. Ok, the Ascension is a roller coaster to me. I didn't originally see them until it was Konnor and the British (or English, I forget where he was from) guy with the flashlight hand who called himself "The Ascension". I thought it was pretty silly then and gave it little thought.
Then, when Viktor took the other guys place, wearing all black contacts and Konnor in his fur coats, yelling "Rrraaaaaaah!" At each other, it got annoying.
During the last of their NXT time with the toned down matching gear, I started getting into them a bit.
Then with their first main roster vignette, I winced and groaned. But with each one, I started liking it more, not because it was good, but because it was good goofy fun.
Now that they debuted, it's like a big fun trainwreck. I know it's not good... I know laughing and smiling isn't the reaction they want from me... but holy crap is is a 80s throwback clustermuck of fun. As long as they're not getting too in the way of big stuff, let the boys play dress up and have fun, and in conclusion... "Raaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!"

I don't mind current Ascension, even with bad halloween costumes now. But I definitely liked this version. I know some people don't like Kenneth Cameron/Bram but I think he has/had a good look, charisma, cut good promos, and could have been their next Foley type bat shit crazy guy. That was Bram? I had no idea.

I was under the impression they were going to be heels. So of course they face the Miz and Sandow. ..........I can understand the crowd not being into it a lot more now. I don't know who I was supposed to be cheering either. Plus that crowd popped HUGE for Bryan's faux retirement segment. So apparently no matter how it went, that crowd was gonna be spent/out of it for any match that followed.

They looked awesome. My only qualm is that they probably need *more* face paint.

What doesn't work for me is that it feels too much like a self-aware "throwback" gimmick. I don't like when wrestling gets that self-referential, because then we're just treading water.

Yeah, I stopped being a fan of the Ascension when it was just two guys instead of a full group and I think Shaul, so I didn't expect anything great coming out of this.

Their debut went about like I was expecting it to, except for the confusing, "Debut them against heels who are facing the odds because they already had a lengthy match, and make them spend most of that time beating up the heel people like," approach. Outside of that, the sky is blue, water's wet, and the Ascension sucks, nothing new here.
