This was, in my mind, one of the finest feuds in the last 10 years. Jericho was carrying on his superb heel work from the previous year, and worked so well that Rey was actually sympathetic in this rivalry. The matches were all pretty damn good too, and it made the Intercontinental Championship look important. So what did the rest of the forum think?

So what did the rest of the forum think? Amazing feud, for as bad as 2009 was, there were a few fantastic feuds. You had this feud, Punk vs Jeff Hardy, and DX vs Legacy. Too bad those feuds were surrounded by so much shit.

I loved how Jericho dressed as the Mysterio fan then later attacked him. So surprising, and so well done.

It was like Jericho morphed into Dean Malenko for their matches.

I loved it, the matches were some of my all time favorites. It was really refreshing to see a storyline that was simple and made sense. With all WWE's talk today about "havin' fun out there!", they should really look back on this feud to see what fun actually looks like.

The tilt a whirl back breaker spot evolving through the matches will always be a highlight of wrestling for me.

I love when two "name" talents fight over the Intercontinental Title.

I loved their matches together. It was actually a pretty fresh match-up, as the two had never really worked a one on one program before.
Hell, SmackDown in 2009 was awesome in general.

Hell, SmackDown in 2009 was awesome in general. You see, I dunno if it's objectively awesome, or just bolstered by the fact RAW that year was repulsive and anything would seem a boon when compared.

I honestly think that even if RAW was good, I would still think SmackDown was good as well. I haven't enjoyed SmackDown very much since then. The only exception would probably be 2011.

It was like Jericho morphed into Dean Malenko for their matches. I never thought about it, but that's the perfect comparison. They were both so awesome, one of the few times I've enjoyed Mysterio in the past few years. I also liked the finish to their match at Extreme Rules where Jericho unmasks Rey mid-619 and rolls him up. Great spot, really played Jericho up as the wiley veteran.

Excellent feud that made the IC title seem important.
I know there is a lot of revisionist history about Mysterio not being good since 2004 but he was on fire in 2008/9.

One of the best Intercontinental title feuds in history. They had so much amazing chemistry together which took their matches and segments that extra level where they seemed absolutely real. It's rare for us older fans to get something that fully allows us to suspend disbelief but that was one of them. Jericho takes great pride in it too, his third book has a large portion devoted to this feud and all the little nuisances and things they dreamed up together show that feud was a labor of love for both men. Plus, there's the story of how they pitched the unmasking mid-619 finish to Vince who called bullshit on their ability to do it. They took him to the ring and demonstrated several times and he declared it the finish on the spot.

Despite being a fan of Christian's title run and the two along with Punk, Edge, Hardy etc did wonders for SmackDown in 2009, oh did I wish Jericho and Mysterio were feuding over the ECW World title than the Intercontinental!

They had incredible matches together. Especially their title vs. mask one at IIRC The Great American Bash.
It's pretty impressive in a year that had that Michaels/Taker match that they still managed to produce almost equally memorable matches together.

Great feud with excellent matches. I was in the crowd when they did the spot where there were like 4 or 5 Reys sitting together in the crowd during Chris' match with Jeff Hardy, and Jericho didn't know which was the real Rey-Rey. I've always thought that was a really smart spot.

I'm leaning towards objectively awesome. There was a time when Punk, Morrison, Jericho, Edge, Mysterio, and Hardy were tearing it up in different combinations every week, and that's before Punk's heel turn and the feud with Hardy and the SES. That was a great time for Smackdown, until f***ing Taker came back and ruined it.

It was definitely awesome with so many guys interchangeably mixing within the top spots, then Taker comes back and it's just Taker and everyone else.
