Has anything ever been heard regarding a behind-the-scenes explanation why Edge & Christian went from brothers to only childhood friends?
Did they want it that way themselves?
Or was it just the case of the writing team having a brain fart, for example, when Edge returned from his injury in 2004?
Writer #1: Duh, Dave, it says here in my memos that Edge and Christian was a tag team before. Do you know why they were working together?
Writer #2: Gee, Steve, I dunno, perhaps they was childhood friends or sumthin'.
Writer #1: Sounds good ta me, Dave, I do this. Now, ta write sumthin for the Diva Search pie eatin' contest...
That's of course assuming that they become childhood friends after Edge's injury, but did it perhaps happen even earlier?
Seems still like one of the biggest continuity snafus the WWE ever did.

I suspected it was an early attempt to curb know-it-all smarks from revealing the 'truth' by just retconning it, given how easily you could find out it wasn't true.

I just reached a point were maintaining the kayfabe made no sense. Everyone knew and it didn't detract from either of them.

We thought we knew them.
We will never know them.

Didn't it coincide with Edge's book?

Didn't it coincide with Edge's book? Yeah, I think it was around that time frame.

The PS1 Smackdown guidebook had a "Did you know" blurb where it mentioned that as a kid Edge fell through some ice while skating and was saved by future best friend and tag team partner Christian.

They were brothers in the sense that they were both sired by Gangrel and thus bound by blood. Once they broke free of his vampiric influence, the familial bond was severed and they reverted to what they were before we met them, before Gangrel made them his thralls: two childhood friends who really loved sodas and crazy-ass sunglasses.

I really like this (they could probably retcon this explanation into the canon and get away with it!), but them being storyline siblings did continue for a while after the Brood. Wasn't it a set up phone call to tell Edge that their mother had been in an accident led to Christian beating him up backstage and joining the Alliance?
