Been watching some episodes of this and I think it still holds up. Kick-ass theme song, J.J was hilarious, so many arcs I loved. Mary-Jane and Norman Osbourne disappearing into the portal, the Mary-Jane who comes back isn't what we think she is, I think the Man-Spider one built up over a whole season. Loved the small crossovers with other Marvel characters showing up like Punisher, Cap, the X-Men, Iron Man and War Machine. Didn't like that whatever villain Spidey faced, the Kingpin was almost always pulling the strings.
Still love this show though.

I actually really liked that Kingpin was pulling the strings, hard to be a kingpin of crime if there a bunch of costumed supervillans doing there own thing.
I did like that apart from Sandman pretty much every villain showed up, despite Electro being related to the red skull.
Didn't like the no punching rule or the weird young vulture but everything else was great. The tablet of time episodes being a particular highlight.

I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as Batman, to me, but it was definitely better than the Iron Man cartoon.

It suffers in hindsight from the cheaper budget and silly censorship, but Spidey's wit and Barnes' performance as the character really help prevent the show from aging too badly.
While I'd say Spectacular is overall a better show (if only because it didn't have the aforementioned hang-ups), I think TAS blazed a lot of new ground especially in doing arc based stories which keep in mind was an entirely novel concept for Western television animation and was only also really done by X-Men at the same time.

It was weird we never got an ending to what happened to MJ or where she was as the show got cancelled.

It's weird I never noticed the bizarre censorship watching it at the time (save for Morbius the vampire needing... PLASMA!) ... but watching it now I wonder what the hell was wrong with me for not noticing I still like the show overall though ... even if they recreated the web slinging exposition dumps from the comics a little too well

I don't understand how plasma is somehow less vulgar than blood. I also don't understand why they always say "destroy" or "obliterate" instead of "kill". It actually sounds way more violent and disturbing.

True. B:TAS usually did contained stories, where even though there'd be callbacks, it wasn't really arcs, since they usually didn't even do two-parters that much, if I recall. So while I think B:TAS ages way better, it was less ambitious in some ways.

It was alright. I liked that they did take a lotta queues from the books which was rare with cartoons back then; but it really hasn't aged that well the last time I watched it.

To be serious: I agree that it hasn't aged well. But in a way that is part of its charm-it's delightfully corny.

I think even the random two bit street crooks were packing laser pistols.
