Well, nice to see Little Miss Bitter a.k.a. Jesu Otaku using his farewell as an excuse to blast the whole site for some "horrible experience" that she already stated she won't answer any questions about. LordKat has been very vocal about his anti-TGWTG feelings on Twitter for some time, now. Kinda odd you bring up her, but not him, when he's been much more vocal and for much longer.

Yeah, maybe the guy who during the Spoonygate situation suggested that Miles should shoot and kill Noah should shut his mouth

I quite enjoy Film Brain, Mike J and Todd. But when it comes to Phelous, Brad and Linkara I either go directly to the site or wait for a link on Facebook. I like Doug, he got me into all these people, but Channel Awesome just seems like one big ego stroke with a lot of dicks behind the scenes. But that's just my opinion. My understanding from hearing people talk is that Doug and Rob are cool people and try to take care of people on the site. Holly (whose no longer with the site but was in charge of HR) was a pain in the ass to deal with, and there were other people as well. Of course, my opinion as always been that the brief hiatus of NC in favor of Demo Reel did the site no favors but that's just my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong as well but it seemed like too many people on the site are one trick ponies that struggle with new ideas. Brad has been able to find a good formula outside of Cinema Snob to make a good living and be entertaining (eat weird food and send Jake to see bad kids movies) and just to clarify, around the time Demo Reel started, Blip jumped off the CA wagon real quick and went from heavily promoting them to promoting a bunch of stuff Rooster Teeth was doing at the time. Once they didn't become Blip's biggest draw, they started to fall a bit.

It's not odd at all, I don't follow LordKat. I don't look him up at all after the crap he pulled that's been mentioned. And I only brought up JO because I just stumbled onto her Twitter last night and she was using Phelous' farewell to step onto her soapbox.

It's odd that that was the around the period where all the internet drama started. Spoonygate was an independent incident but he was the first to really cast shade on how cliquish and unhappy a lot of the contributors were.

But If you go back and watch, around that time they announced how they were going to be doing all these cool new projects and had purchased a studio (which is why Doug was retiring the Nostalgia Critic) but the projects either bombed (Demo Reel, and ironically I think Doug was the worst part of that show) or never got off the ground.

It does sound like the whole enterprise is running its course.
While the Nostalgia Critic will always be there as long as it lasts, of course, others could easily leave and set up / join websites elsewhere. Guys like Linkara and the Cinema Snob have already got the safety net set up there, contributors to the site but with their own websites as well. While Spoony always kept his site going even when he allied with Channel Awesome.
It may simply be that the site will work best as a place for up-and-comers to contribute, and once people reach a certain fanbase level it's just not the place for them anymore.

What was Spoonygate? All I know is that was something to do with Lupa and a rape joke.

What was Spoonygate? All I know is that was something to do with Lupa and a rape joke. Basically that, Spoony made a rape joke to JesuOtaku, Lupa called him out for it, Spoony had a meltdown on twitter. I guess that was the one public thing but he had supposedly been bugging other people with weird messages. He was in a bad place at the time, and had been misdiagnosed with the wrong type of mental issue. He got diagnosed correctly and got proper medication and started doing better.

I can't help but feel they overplayed their hands without even looking at their cards. They went full in investing all that money into Doug's passion project without even gauging if his audience would actually stick around.

I don't know about all this talk of Channel Awesome/TGWTG being done, but I do know that just as long as the reviewers I like watching keep making videos, I'll keep watching them. As it is I watch Cinema Snob on his own site anyway, and I know a lot of the other talent have their own sites.
Also it wasn't that long ago that they added a bunch of new people to the site. I watched one of the videos by one of them (the Targets review by Count Jakula) and I thought it was really good, so there is that.

Wow, I'm really a newb to all this stuff. NC is the only reason I go to that channel. And even then I watch almost everything on YouTube. I know of a few others, but again......mainly because they were in NC videos. Reading some of these posts is like delving into advanced hieroglyphology for the first time.....and getting the gist that the ancient Egyptians had a LOT of drama that I just didn't care about.

I'm surprised any of these lot save for Doug (and these days, he sucks too) have such an audience. They just lack so much talent, in my opinion.

To me it kinda sucks because it was nice to have everything in one place, Linkara, Brad, Todd, NC, Chick etc. Out of the new guys, SFDebris was already possibly my favourite reviewer online, Ursa has her moments, if we give the new people views, maybe they'll be as good. Could just be a change in generation rather than the downfall.

I wonder if I am a little spoiled with the Super Best Friends. 4 people with a small network of animators who contribute sometimes, but they put out so much good content, including more than 7 videos a week and a podcast. I feel like maybe they found a pretty good size and aren't overgrown or undermanned.

The only person on the site I liked less than Phelous was Lupa. So, eh. Not bothered.
