"I've been asked whether or not amiibo and similar concepts should be considered a new form of DLC. My immediate answer was "No, that's silly." However, I've been asked variations of the question enough times to feel that a more detailed discussion is need. Let's get tied up in it!"
(WARNING: Does feature Amiibos dry humping each other)

I like my Link Amiibo and am glad I bought it. I think that really, you get what you pay for. It's a nice little statue, which is not easy to find within this price point for Nintendo products that are actually painted and all, and you get fun support from some of the figures for other games. I don't regret getting mine and will likely get others eventually.

I like them for what they are, but I also really wish Nintendo increased the production runs of most of the figures. If for nothing else than the fact that aside from their rarity, there is no reason to pay the insane mark up prices on places like eBay for the rarer ones. They are nice figures, sure, but not THAT nice.

Also I really hate the Store Exclusives... -_-

Sure, they aren't going to sell millions of Wii Fit Trainers and Marths, but all those Marios and Donkey Kongs that are sitting on pegs marked for Captain Falcon or Pit are just going to sit there because everyone can find them.

I bought a couple of Amiibo's because I like them as figures. I didn't buy them with the intention of using them with games at all, in fact I'm keeping them unopened.
So in other words, even if Amiibo's did nothing, I would have bought them anyway.

I'm still undecided on how I feel about these. Going to watch this video during my lunch break.

Yeah, given the price a lot of figures run, Amiibos can be REAL cheap for how good they look, outside of the occasional examples of bad molding or iffy paint. I've only really seen those online, though, all of the ones I've seen in person have been practically flawless, with even small details like Link's chainmail being painted perfectly.

I have Mario, Link, and Samus which I have opened. I have Wii Fit Trainer, and Captain Falcon, and Diddy Kong unopened. I have pre-orders for Ike, King Dedede, Shiek, Bowser, Sonic, and Mega Man. The one I REALLY want is Little Mac, but I'm not paying a kings ransom for one.

The only one I have is Mac baby (Punch Out is my favorite Nintendo franchise outside of Pokémon and Smash if you count that, Mac is my favorite new character in Smash 4, and my favorite two Game Grumps series were on Punch Out), and the only way I could get him was to go out on launch day morning and ask the clerk at Gamestop if they had any, of which they had exactly one in the back room. I felt like I was making a drug deal, it was crazy.

Watched the video. I may buy the Toon Link Amiibo because of my love for Wind Waker and I main as him in Smash.

Now of course, if all the figures looked like their target models, with their insane detailing and shit, then the crazy mark up would be more worth it. Hell I honestly wouldn't mind dropping $20 per Amiibo, if they had all that detailing.
