I currently work for a finance company in Edinburgh and have been offered a transfer to our office in Sydney. I am interested in taking it up, but am trying to determine what type of lifestyle a 75k AUD base salary would lead to while over there.
While I currently rent a 1 bedroom flat to myself in Edinburgh, I would expect to share a 2 or 3 bed with others after moving. Given that, where does 75k fit in the scale of "good", "reasonable" or "good luck with that" for being able to have ample spare cash for a fairly active social life. I don't mind giving up a little extra spending money for the experience of living in a new city, but don't want to get over there and find i'm staying in eating beans on toast every night! I had enough of that during my student days!!

Hi ya
75k is a great salary and you will be able to rent a nice apartment with that.
I would recommend that you look for a place outside of the CBD though as Sydney is very expensive. Sydney has a fantastic public transport system so it isn't too difficult to get around without a car. (If you have a car, don't worry about it)
Sydney is a beautiful city. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Cool, thanks!
I don't drive so would be relying on public transport for most things. Haven't looked much into the various areas as yet, would be put up in Sydney by the company for 30 days initially so it would likely be easier to judge on that while i'm actually there.

You'd be quite well off with 75k, sydney is an expensive city mind you so as the above poster mentioned I'd look outside the cbd to rent.
My preference is melbourne over sydney, but hope you enjoy australia regardless!

You'd work out fine although Sydney is the second most expensive city to live in Australia.
