I think of them is Cuba Gooding Jr. sure he went form academy awards to being in Snow dogs but not everything he's done recently is terrible he's been in American Gangster,Selma,The Butler not in major roles but still pretty good.
Another I would say is M.Night.Shymalan sure he's done a lot of terrible films but I think Roger Ebert is right about him even if he doesn't show it with his quality of work.

Catherine Hardwicke and Bill Condon get shit on a lot but their good far outweighs their bad.

I'd say Nic Cage.
Granted, I admit that he simply doesn't care anymore, but at one time I'd argue he was one of the best actors in the world. In fact, I had a hard time believing that until I started watching a lot of his earlier movies, but the dude was really good, hell he still had some fine moments in recent years, but generally he just takes the payday, which is frustrating.
Wes Anderson is criticized for his style and sticking too close to it, but honestly that sets him apart from so many others. Until he turns into Tim Burton, I think he'll be okay.

I've seen so many dubious superhero flicks since its come out that I kind of view Batman and Robin as pretty harmless now. Schumacher did the material no real favors, but the studio's push for lighter and goofier stuff probably damned it to some degree no matter who was directing.

Joel Schumacher
"Batman & Robin" was a bad movie I won't deny that (Plus WB too had a hand in it's awfulness) but I think most of his other movies more than make up for it.

controversial pick, but Adam Sandler. Most of his flicks, sans Jack and Jill are harmless and at the very least "watchable"

I do have to disagree that Nic Cage doesn't care anymore. He doesn't care about the movie he takes but he hasn't phoned in a performance yet. Hell he did insane method acting for f***ing GHOST RIDER 2! GHOST RIDER 2! Plus for a really good recent Nicolas Cage movie, watch Joe.

Oh trust me, I don't think Cage phones it in, he just isn't as selective as he once was.

Wasn't one of the problems with Batman and Robin that it was basically being used to sell toys ?

Tim Burton/Johnny Depp
So they're quirky, Alice in Wonderland made a billion bucks. Quirk sells and they make something different than most the other stuff put out.

Michael Bay is definitely someone who gets picked on, but I think it's mostly because of the Transformers movies than anything. I don't hate the guy like a lot of movie fans do, or at least say they do. I liked both Bad Boys movies, The Rock, Pain & Gain, and I kind of enjoyed The Island. I am mostly on the fence when it comes to Armageddon, though.

I think poor ol' Jake Lloyd gets way too much flack for Phantom Menace. He was just a little kid. The real problems were with the director and editing. I feel sorry for how his life went.

My answer used to be Ben Affleck, but he's had one hell of a turn around in the last four or five years. There was a period of time from around Pearl Harbor through to Gigli and Jersey Girl to Daredevil where he got a lot of hate. His directing has been a major part of his turnaround, not to mention the recent role in Gone Girl. There was still a lot of backlash and groaning about his casting as Batman, though. I'm not even sure myself that he should be Batman.
I don't know what to say about Nicolas Cage. The man will accept anything. It's embarrassing. He won an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas! He was was great in Bringing Out the Dead and Adaptation. I think he has made so much crap that it will be very hard for him to re-establish a good reputation. I think he tried to pull a McConaughey with Joe, but that's come and gone and it really didn't get that much attention.

Anyone who shares a film series with Harrison Ford doesn't deserve to get hated for bad acting. One of them at least has an excuse of being in grade school at the time.

Shymalan deserves all the hate he gets. He hasn't made a good movie since 2000. That's 15 years of suck. And it's not like his bad movies are just below average. Dude makes dumpster fires. He's really, really bad. Obscenely bad. He must make the best sandwiches and have a great video game collection because otherwise I can't explain why so many people give him money to make a bunch of crap nobody likes.

M. Night Shyamalan, because I like Lady In The Water, The Happening and The Village. His earlier works, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs are all very good movies.
Joel Schumacher, because Batman and Robin was a case of the director simply following the orders of the studio. He gave them the movie they instructed him to give.
Kristen Stewart, because yes, she's miserable, sullen and anti-social in Twilight, but that's how the character is in the books. If anything, she deserves credit for playing the role faithfully to the source material.
Every actor in the Star Wars prequels, because they did the best they could with the piss poor script, and working with a director who doesn't like actors.

That reminds me, add Robert Pattinson to my list, please. A lot of people gave him crap for "looking constipated or something" in the Twilight films, but in the book, Edward Cullen was described as "always looked like he was in pain." Robert was actually doing a great acting job there! It's a subtle thing people don't pick up on.
