I might be in the minority, but I still think there is a chance for Rowan to get back on track.

I always found him to be the Hunico/Mike Knox spot for the Survivor Series match I like to think of it as the Tyler Reks spot. Take a random guy who looks big and threatening, build him up as a wild card for the Survivor Series match, completely lose interest after.

If you want clean finishes and don't want even steven booking, somebody has to lose. There's many guys on the roster worth protecting more than Rowen.

No I'm talking about the Rubik's cube stuff, the chess game stuff the like "oh lol wrestling's fake but it's cool in an ironic way" kinda NXT flavored stuff that constituted Rowan's face turn outside of warm body alongside Dolph Ziggler and Ryback. Ah, I see. Well they were traits that really didn't amount to anything either in fueds or in ring stuff. It would be like giving R-Truth backstage segments where he's got a fear of heights, with him not even climbing on ladders or certain stairs, and then it not only never being brought up again, but having matches where Truth frequently gets on the top rope without anyone mentioning how amazing it is that's he's overcoming his fear. Rowan is a genius who has no innovative ring strategy, is not showing up heels with his smarts, or is even affecting his mannerisms. Him being a genius has about as much impact as announcing he's really into reading the Family Circus strip on Sundays. That whole business was another great example of WWE telling us things instead of showing us... It is one of their biggest problems in storytelling and has been for years. I used to point to Ted Dibiase Jr. who was given the Rich Heel Gimmick like his dad... but for the most part all he ever did was come out to the ring and wrestle... maybe with the million dollar title... and one time he bought some dude's eyeball... Compare that to his father where they aired vignettes of him buying out a public pool, getting people to humiliate themselves for money, going shopping, flashing a stack of bills at like every opportunity, buying off wrestlers and referees... etc etc... It's like night and day... If your going to give someone a character or a gimmick... have it tie into everything they do and don't just have Michael Cole say well I was talking with him earlier today and did you know he's a world class cellist?

Ted DiBiase could have worked as a rich philanthropist. Instead of half-heartedly copying his Dad's character, he could have flipped it on its head.
But I digress

Big Show flattened him for no reason and the world moved on, with little reason to care.

Pretty much every time someone feuds with Big Show, it's full of suck and fail and they're much worse off for it. Rowan was no exception.

A lot of it was just humming and hahing around his autistic savant character, hinting and implying, but never outright saying it and choosing the lamest feats for him (he's a vintner!) which make no sense given his backstory. That and he's still the same old Erick Rowan. No progression, no changes to his in-ring style, no changes to his entrance aside from a kickass theme, no changes to his gear. Nothing.

Big Show flattened him for no reason and the world moved on, with little reason to care. Yeah. There was no reason for that. Even "fattening Big Show up to feed to Reigns" isn't a good reason because Show is someone they'll always present as a threat no matter what, so he doesn't need to be "built up".

I'm just glad they didn't do what they did at the house show I went to on TV. Big show ran down Rowan and said that he already proved that Rowan wasn't in his league and ran him down for like 2 minutes... and then Big Show won clean... proving that Big Show was right...

I would say things went RIGHT for Rowan, he main evented a Big 4 PPV and is in an important storyline.

He faced his former Wyatt Family brother and it was treated as a throw away match. That's ridiculous after what they went through together and therefore the character of Eric Rowan is not believable, as a result there's no reason to care about him. Something made worse by the aforementioned character tweaks that made little sense. Wrestling can be ridiculous but there still has to be some internal logic and consistency. If you want clean finishes and don't want even steven booking, somebody has to lose. There's many guys on the roster worth protecting more than Rowen. It's hard to believe watching Raw but with competent writers/bookers it is possible for people to look strong even when losing in a clean finish. This weeks NXT featured an example...(pause so people can stop reading if they haven't seen it)... where Breeze arguably looked stronger than ever despite losing cleanly in the first round of a tournament in what was his first match for quite some time. That was largely due to him showing a lot of fighting spirit and debuting some new moves. In a similar way Rowan could have looked better than he did while losing to The Big Show. A simple angle where Big Show took his opponent lightly and is shocked when Rowan puts up more of a fight than he expected largely due to the addition of something new to his arsenal to evolve his shtick from The Wyatt Family. Instead Rowan just lost.

He bottled Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling...the McMahon family only drinks Merlots and Sauvignon Blancs.
THAT right there is what killed his push and sent him and his wine into purgatory hell.

I wonder if WWE was surprised, like they thought he was going to be a red hot babyface

He needs a "most interesting man in the world gimmick". Every week we learn more and more badass facts about the Man, the Myth, the Legend...Erick Rowan.
