4 years after winning his first NHRA World Championship in Top Fuel, Del Worsham finally gets his World Championship in Funny Car. Debuting in the class in 1990 at the World Finals, 25 years later, he finally gets to be on top of the mountain in Funny Car. He joins a very select group of drivers who have won both the NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car World Championships, that being Kenny Bernstein and Gary Scelzi. And he did it with Scott Kalitta's name on the side of the car. Congrats, Del. You earned it, and you truly deserve it.

Dale Jr. wins a rain-shortened Phoenix. The drivers racing for the championship next week are Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, and Martin Truex Jr.

Gordon or Kyle for me. Not a Truex fan and after Harvick f***ed up 'Dega I don't want him near the title.

Gordon or Truex Jr. for me. I'd like to see Gordon go out on top, or see Truex Jr. win it for Furniture Row.

Still want 4 to repeat, but I'd be OK with Kyle winning too.
F*** Logano. So glad that prick didn't make it.

And now for a statement I never thought I would say. I hope Jeff Gordon wins the championship, and if he doesn't I wouldn't mind it going to Kyle Busch.

And there's not a deserving champion among the four of them...

And there's not a deserving champion among the four of them... Harvick was the early pace-setter at the start of the year and Kyle won three races in a row mid-season (and should have been four if he didn't run out of fuel at Pocono). Truex and Jeff have lucked into contention I agree but it's always the risk with this chase format.

I've seen a few other places leak it so hopefully I don't get got but, yeah, NASCAR is bringing the Chase to at least the Xfinity series by 2017 at the latest barring something major occurring. Slightly different format (7 race, then 6 and then 1) and anyone competing for Cup points would be banned from racing in Xfinity. The lowest person in the Chase would be eliminated starting after a certain number of races or so many after a certain number of them until 4 are left for Miami. NASCAR is also considering something similar for Truck but did not have specifics.

Truex and Jeff have lucked into contention I agree but it's always the risk with this chase format. Not to mention that Harvick has tied the record for most 2nd Place finishes in a season, and would likely be leading on straight points if there was no Chase. Yeah, I know, Jimmie and S***head Logano have the most wins, but if "most wins gets the championship" how it worked, Kenseth would have never bored everybody to death on his way to the 2003 title.

I wonder at what point the powers that be will realize that almost nobody likes the Chase format. Especially now that they're belatedly bringing it to Xfinity and Trucks.
That being said, go Gordon, I wouldn't mind seeing him go out on top at all, though that'll get people bitching that NASCAR is fake, rigs things, blah blah blah.
You can't get a sentimental anything in sports anymore without getting accused of fixing things. I hate it.

This Xfinity race is the reason people make fun of NASCAR fans. Someone needs to throw a hot dog wrapper on the track and draw the degree yellow to bunch up the field...
Except no one is in the stands.
I must have missed a LOT more decline in NASCAR than I realized.

I don't know why, but the majority of the Xfinity field feels like even more unknowns than the Busch Grand National fields I remember from growing up. I don't know how much of that is nostalgia or the fact that back then there were a LOT more dedicated BGN teams that weren't just Winston Cup offshoots, or the fact that the only "Buschwhackers" at any given time were typically Mark Martin and later on Jeff Burton.
Could also be that there were more BGN "lifers" than there are now, ditto for the truck series, but I'd argue right now the truck series has more of a distinct identity than the Xfinity series does.

It's here. Final race of the season. Pulling for my 1st driver Jeff Gordon today. Anyone willing to bet that all Hendrick cars will be planning to make sure he stays out front?
