I don't really get the love this board has for Clerks 2. Never understood it, but I always see it ranked super high around these parts. I'm curious, what's the appeal? I'm not totally sure why anybody who enjoyed the first film wouldn't enjoy the sequel. The humour isn't as edgy, and I don't particularly care for the donkey show scene, but for me it's the perfect progression of the characters established in Clerks. Personally, a big part of it for me is that I identify with Dante as the kind of guy eternally frustrated by his career situation, but never quite motivated enough to gamble giving up the comfortable life for a chance at something better until something life-changing happens. Like Dante, I worked a dead-end job I disliked for years almost until it closed down, then took a job at a big corporate company in a minimal-paying position, before becoming a first-time father (at age 33, again like Dante) and realising it's time to take life by the scruff of the neck and make it what I want it to be. While I haven't achieved my own 'buying the Quick Stop' end goal yet, I think I'm making more progress towards it than any time in the last decade.

Clerks II and Zach & Miri tied for #1, Jay and Silent Bob & Dogma tied for distant #2.
Can't stand his original "trilogy" (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy) and haven't seen the other four.

I think there's a MASSIVE gap between Mallrats and Clerks 2, or the beginning half of his filmography and the second half. Chasing Amy is goddamn great, though, and probably one of my favorite movies ever.

Since I've not put my ranking down yet:
1. Dogma. 2. Clerks. 3. Mallrats. 4. Clerks 2. 5. Chasing Amy - it would be much higher, but turning Holden into an absolute moron for the climactic scene spoils it. 6. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. 7. Jersey Girl. 8. Tusk. 9. Red State. 10. Cop Out. 11. Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Clerks Chasing Amy Strike Back Mallrats Dogma Clerks 2 Zach and Miri Jersey Girl Red State Cop Out
Haven't seen Tusk yet but won't even bother to get it on dvd from Netflix. I'll wait for it to come to Netflix streaming or cable. Nothing he's done other than other than View Askewniverse bawdy comedies has worked.

Only going by the ones I saw, so Cop Out and Red State won't be on here.
1. Clerks 2 2. Dogma 3. Clerks 4. Mallrats 5. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back 6. Chasing Amy 7. Zack & Miri Make A Porno 8. Jersey Girl
All of them except for Jersey Girl had some redeeming value.

Chasing Amy Clerks Dogma (I know man but it was deep yet still had dick and fart jokes) Jay and silent Bob (I liked the cameos and it was funny) Clerks II (reality of what can happen when life ambitions slip away thru conscious effort) That is all. I will not type the rest of the names as they are unworthy of my effort Always thought Jay and Silent Bob got too much hate

I can certainly understand your identification with Dante but I just didn't find II nearly as entertaining. Also didn't buy either of Dante's love interests.

Not even kidding when I say Jersey Girl is my favorite all-around Kevin Smith film. There aren't any films of his that I really dislike(only one I never saw was Cop Out),but I think Clerks is very overrated.I would recommend that people see Tusk just for the walrus parts(but good luck making it through the "Guy" scenes).

These are the ones I've seen. I like 'em all, if any of them are on TV and I've got nothing to do I'll watch them. But there's a pretty solid divide after Chasing Amy.

I never got what was so funny about the LOTR stuff in Clerks II. Frodo and Sam's relationship is a big part of what makes the trilogy so memorable, who cares if it looks homoerotic?

I never got what was so funny about the LOTR stuff in Clerks II. Frodo and Sam's relationship is a big part of what makes the trilogy so memorable, who cares if it looks homoerotic? From what I've seen: Dogma Clerks Chasing Amy Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Mallrats Clerks II Red State I thought the LOTR stuff was funny because of the performances. Randall was in his ultimate element, combining his love of Star Wars and, of course, profanity-laced tirades, with his bitterness as a 30 year old burger flipper that doesn't "get" kids these days. Elias and the other guy's pure revulsion that Randall would say such things was great. The one guy pukes after Randall lays out his BJ-oriented re-imagining of the final scene, and Elias gives us "NOT the Rings Randall. Say what you will about Jesus but leave the Rings out of this." I thought it was well-done as a very exaggerated comparison. I do like Star Wars, and don't like LOTR, but there was a lot more to like about that scene than "HA stupid gay hobbits".
