Seeing how race isn't important then I take we're all for Donald Glover for Spider-Man lets go. Honestly....? I actually wish they'd go with a young unknown. They'd kinda have to seeing as how there aren't very many young black boys being groomed for leading roles in Hollywood. It's just interesting that wanting a movie that doesn't have the same straight white dude at the center, instead expressing interest in seeing the black kid get a movie is painted as unreasonable by some people...despite the fact the same straight white dude has five movies and several hundreds of comics at his back. That's not a good look for some of y'all, man. It's a reminder of why I don't even mess with large corners of comic fandom. You can even still read about Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Marvel. I doubt you'll ever be without the ability to buy a new story or many re-tellings of Parker stories. Even when Secret Wars goes down, I doubt Marvel will ever make it to where you couldn't read about Parker at all. See, Parker isn't a black character that you can just shove into comic limbo and forget about, you know? Do people think that if Miles gets popular and "iconic" then Marvel will stop printing stories about Parker?

I'm not sure where to stand on this, since I don't follow the comics. Peter Parker has the benefit of tenure and being the guy in the suit in all the movies and games that Spider-Man has been in, while Miles Morales seems to be a fresh, modern and somewhat unique take on Spider-Man, especially in contrast to Peter "Tell Them The Origin Story Again, Sony" Parker. I can't see why both can't co-exist in these things. They're in different costumes already, so not being able to tell them apart is a non-factor. Is it the fact that both are called Spider-Man? Could a name change for one of them be the solution here?

Also, Miles Morales is a decent character; he's a fun version of Spider-man, much like Miguel O'Hara is--- neither of them are the 'real' Spider-man. Peter is. In the context of any sort of canon universe, I want the original character personally.
You can do 2099 or Ultimate at some point, but if we're seeing the other original characters, I'm glad we're getting Pete to come play first.

Seeing how race isn't important then I take we're all for Donald Glover for Spider-Man lets go. If he's Peter? Sure. Glover's talented, and could play the role well.

Seeing how race isn't important then I take we're all for Donald Glover for Spider-Man lets go. sure, no problem and i'll cast Brad Pitt as the Black Panther. this IS NOT about race, it' about getting a beloved character right. Here's the big difference, their is nothing intrinsically White about Peter, being white is not a core part of his being at all. The Black Panther comparison is so f***ing weak & foolish it just makes you look bad.

The Black Panther comparison is so f***ing weak & foolish it just makes you look bad. no offense, but you completely miss the point. my point about casting the Black Panther it was rhetorical. the point is if you're going to make a movie about a character, get it right or don't do it at all. and yes there is something about Peter that is inherently "white" about him, he is a reflection of the time he was created in. just like the character Miles is a product of the time and society he was created in, (which is more diverse). and there is nothing wrong with either one. it's just the way it is. ok,

Actually, no matter if we get Peter or Miles and who plays him, i would have the film be more from the perspective of the people of New York and the other MCU characters, as opposed to being from the perspective of Peter/Miles.

I came into this thread expecting to see cheers of jubilation about Spider-Man joining the MCU and instead I'm seeing an argument about whether or not Marvel is racist or not.
Peter Parker is the most famous of the two. Audiences are more likely to see him in a movie than they would Miles. Miles Morales will be introduced when Peter Parker's actor's contract expires. Nothing to do with racism at all. And I say that as a Miles Morales fan.
Back on topic, I'm buzzing for Spidey go join the MCU. Sucks we have to lose Andrew Garfield but it's for the greater good.

Why does this announcement have to be about race/gender?
I know people complain about gender/race equality in the MCU and other comic book films, but why? Who cares?
It's Spiderman.

In May last year, Marvel has a meeting with Zac Efron for something that never seemed to go anywhere. According to the timeline for the Sony leaks, that would have been around the time they started working on the deal.
Gotta wonder.....

Cool to see Spidey come back, though if I see a Goblin involved I will be sad.
As for it being Miles or Peter, I'd prefer Peter as I dislike the ultimate universes take on the spidey villains.

Like it or not, Peter Parker is the real Spider-Man. Kinda like Bruce Wayne is Batman. People wouldn't accept a different spiderman outside of the crazy comic fans(myself included). It has nothing to do with race or gender. If you hear spider man and don't think Peter Parker then something is wrong. I for one am super excited about this being a thing. Peter Parker in the MCU is what we've all been clamor ing for. We should be happy it's happening and stop trying to make it about something it's not. And be excited we get to see marvel get their hands on this franchise.

I generally can't stand most of the Ultimate heroes (Ult Cap sucks sooooo baaaaaaad) and I'm not happy to see Garfield go either, but if I can't get him back then go ahead and give me Donald Glover in the role.
From what I've read, Morales' popularity has a lot more to do with how he stands out personality wise to the rest of that canon, not so much because he's a token minority.

If some thoughts about Secret Wars are true and Peter does move on making Miles the main universes Spider-Man I think that could be easily reflected in the movies. It'd be a hell of a lot less clunky then how they had to turn Nick Fury black in the comics. I think Peter will remain Spidey after Secret Wars, but he'll be married to MJ, have a kid, and will still run his company while mentoring Miles and/or Gwen who will be the "younger" Spideys running around. Keep in mind one of Sony's plans in the leaks was to do a film based on an older Peter

Peter Parker is the Spider-Man I grew up with and the one I want to see in the movies. I have no idea who any of the 'other' spider men are at all.

Ironicly, Spidey's best sales in years since the OMD fiasco were when they had Doc Ock take over from Peter in the role. I was'nt a big fan of that (or Slott's writing in general) but there is a feeling, given the venting of the fanbase for Miles and such, the overwhelming reception to Spider-Gwen, that some people really are bored senseless with Peter these days. People who won't support the franchise if it's "not Peter" are frankly out of touch in my opinion
Hell, for years my favorite Spidey book was about his daughter from the 90s kicking tail as Spider-Girl while he was retired.
