I gave up for a few years, after basically just playing wrestling games for 2 years. Then I got back in, thanks to Star Wars Battlefront, but eventually that got old. And now, except for app stuff like Angry Birds and Megapolis, I'm video game free and relatively uninterested in going back into that world...
And I must say, in my post-video game life I look at a lot of the gamer drama and just think it's idiotic. I was never knee-deep in that stuff when I played, mind you, but being completely out of the life does give one perspective...

Oddly enough, I've suddenly been to play video games more now(of course I've been watching a lot of Extra Credits episodes lately).

Yeah, you should probably stop playing video games after you're about 23, dude. Otherwise, it's prrreeety pathetic.

I do think there's a point where scaling it back is healthy. It's like any other hobby: moderation is good, and you have to balance it with your life's responsibilities, goals, and other interests.
When I moved to Jersey City, I had a few more things to occupy my time living in a city, plus I went back to working full time and attending grad school; gaming just wasn't much of an option anymore, but I had even began cutting back before then. Lots of money, and time consuming. I spent a couple of years only playing games when I'd get to my family's house in the summer, where my old SNES and Genesis are.
That said, couple of years later I'm in my own apartment, and I've picked up a Wii U. I've enjoyed it (have Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros., Wii Fit, and a couple downloaded older games), but I don't play anywhere near as regularly as I did during my teens and early 20s; I just don't have the time, and I procrastinate badly enough as it is.

I'm at the point where I can only devote myself to maybe 2 games at a time. I take my game purchases much more seriously now because of that.

Ten years ago when I was playing Dark Age of Camelot there were a couple of retirees (one 65-ish, another 70+) in our guild. They started because of their kids & grandkids but kept going because they enjoyed it.
Don't let other people define what's "right" for you based on their own mores, likes, dislikes, or prejudices. Define yourself.

I mean, being obsessed and doing absolutely NOTHING but playing video games is one thing, but just actively enjoying them and being a gamer doesn't mean you're a loser for life.

I've just recently noticed how little I care about video games now compared to a few years ago. I still get excited about various Nintendo released (Zelda, Mario, etc.), but I don't really care about much else. I got Dragon Age: Inquisition, Evil Within, and Diablo III for Christmas. I think I've put (maybe) 3 hours into all of them combined since then. Having said that, I could probably sit down with an NES, SNES, or Genesis and play for hours at any given time.
That little diatribe aside, no, you shouldn't stop playing if you enjoy them.

Of course you shouldn't turn into that guy that lives in front of his tv/computer but a normal amount of gaming is good for you, hell they use games as part of therapy for the elderly. As long as you enjoy the games then play away.

isn't that kind of like asking if there's a cutoff date for when you can't read books or watch TV? Not to the politicians who pass legislation restricting video games from being sold in their respective countries.

Do what makes you happy. There are more productive things you can do with your time than play video games, but the same could most certainly be said of watching most TV and film (I'm talking about mindless entertainment that doesn't foster critical thinking). If you enjoy games, the only legitimate reason I could see for cutting them out of your life would be putting an end to game addiction.

I like the lighter type games. Games lighter in tone and appearance. Darker games don't appeal to me as much.

I find I cannot sit down for hours like I used to be able too (as long as we don't count Civilisation and Football Manager, right ?). Someone asked me when I was going to stop playing 'the video games' and I replied 'when you stop reading books and watching movies'. Didn't go down well.

This was a serious question I asked myself when I found out I was going to become a father, last year.
And the answer for me turned out to be, no. As long as they don't stop you from what you need to do, then no. I play them a lot less. I play less games. It will take me four times as long to finish a game then it did before. But I still play them, a couple times a week, and I still enjoy them.
I'm hoping Episodic gaming, which has been gathering steam the last couple years with Telltale Games and now with Square Enix releasing Life is Strange, really takes off in the next few years. I see it as the perfect way for someone with a family to look after to still find a way to play video games and not feel guilty or frustrated.

You do whatever you want to do. I've been playing less and less over the last few years. I really don't have the time anymore. I work all day and when I get home, I'm hanging out with my son and my wife. By the time he goes to bed, I just want to sit there and do nothing. My weekends are usually spent out with my wife or I'm catching up on shows that I DVR.
