I'm 32 years old and I've watched wrestling since I can remember and I don't ever recall seeing Piper in anything other than blue trunks in the WWF. And yet, all his WWF figures had red trunks?? See.. And notice even his 90s Hasbro figure has red kneepads... What gives??? I did, however, get this today and after all these years I have a Piper with correct trunks...

I'm not saying this is why, but it's maybe related, all early Simspons Tshirts featuring Bart that were officially licensed have him in a blue Tshirt rather than red. It was a way to out bootlegs.

He did wear red one time in MSG against Ivan Putski in May of 84 and he did wear green once too.

It never really bothered me before, but a lot of the LJN figures had attire that wasn't accurate, like the Warlord with short trunks, The British Bulldogs wearing brown tights and Hillbilly Jim wearing a red tank top underneath his overalls

I'm figuring it could be an early look he had in WWF though he did have the blue trunks in NWA. He had a few different t-shirt styles early in WWF run like the red S superman shirt and the panther shirt which was original planned for LJN. With wrestling figure companies, they didn't always make the correct thing the wrestler wore. Jakks was notorious for that, while LJN not so much though the most glaring was Andre's reverse black strap.

No, he only wore blue trunks and kneepads.
He used to wear claret boots, but then switched to black ones.

He wore plaid tights at one point but I don't remember red ones.

It's always surprised me how poor WWF's quality control was when it came to early figures. Another good example are the Hasbro Yokozuna figures. He was released in two different versions, neither of which were his correct attire. Makes you wonder who was making the final decisions back then or whether these things just weren't considered to be that important.

For as hands on as Vince has always been described, it surprises me how some figure companies got away with the quality control, as you note. Most surprising is the early years of Jakks. With Yokozuna, the first figure specifically, he did wear that outfit (as seen on the card back) though it must have been something very short lived or something used for early promotional photos and it just wound up being used. The second figure was a repaint with white used and he probably never wore that particular version. Hasbro and LJN were much better than Jakks, IMO, with making the correct outfit though we can look back and point at errors in their lines, as well.

I want to know when Flair was ever this slim, and when he had a massive hole in the back of his arm...

So the ONE time Piper wore those trunks was the time LJN must of been scouting before they made the figures lol.

I never got why he didn't wrestle in the shirt and kilt. I thought that would've looked cool.
