My wife and I just checked it out. I have to say, I borderline hated it. I think casual moviegoers will love it, but longtime fans of the Spider-Man comics will have a tough time with a lot of it. Here's some spoilery gripes. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Damn near the entire supporting cast are only the characters in name only. Ned Leeds isn't really Ned Leeds. Liz Allen isn't actually Liz Allen. Betty Brant is just a random girl. Flash Thompson is a goofy looking pipsqueak. And the worst? The new character "Michelle" informs the crew at the end of the film "My friends call me MJ". That's right, "MJ" doesn't even stand for "Mary Jane" anymore. Now I'm expecting J. Jonah Jameson to show up in the sequel as a f***ing dentist or something.
Also, Spidey now has an A.I. voice in his suit just like Iron Man, and we get shots of all kinds of VR interface nonsense. To me, this sucks all the Spider-Man out of him. He's just teenage Iron Man. So yeah, I'm still sticking to my guns and saying Andrew Garfield was the best Spider-Man.

Got my tickets for Saturday. I loved Andrew Garfield, but I'm also really digging Tom Holland. Especially because of things like this...

Me: F**** YOU! Yep. This movie has made me grateful that Fox still has the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. I can't believe I'd ever say that.

Honestly I loved it. Felt like a great modern take of Spider-Man with a hell of Easter eggs and little twists on the MCU formula {Spoiler} Like Vulture wasn't basically just bland evil Spider-Man but they were similar, their lives were changed after the incident and Tony Stark (somewhat) played a role in who they became. Gambino and Karen were the real stars for me. And I saw the MJ thing coming a mile away and I'm not bothered by it, I'm hoping this means she'll be like Ultimate MJ in that she's an adorkable nerd I didn't expect it to be genre changing like Civil War but definitely thought it'd be at least better than the average MCU movies (which it was). I enjoyed the whole movie, there's a few things I would've liked more like maybe less Ned and more Aunt May but overall solid. Doesn't change the formula of MCU movies that much but does a terrific job. I'd probably put it as my 3rd favorite MCU film after Avengers and Civil War.

I loved everything they did with the franchise in this. Just great.

Probably the first Disney produced Marvel film that I'm going to pass on.

He was true to Peter in terms of being extremely intelligent. Stark providing him a prototype suit and having an AI in said suit isn't that much of stretch, considering he provided him the Iron Spider armor in the Civil War comics too.

Peter was in his 30's in Civil War. In these films, Peter got THE Spider-Man suit from Tony Stark. One of the best things about Spider-Man was that he was a basic, self-made hero. Marvel Studios has all but taken that from him.

The home made suit was nice. But the real spider suit was pretty darn cool.

I definitely didn't mind the new approach as a whole, however, I definitely get what you're coming from as it's one of the major aspects that separates Spidey from other superheroes. There's always the sequels and possibly Infinity War where he will probably branch out on his own and make more gadgets of his own, another suit, etc.

{Spoiler}The one highlight for me regarding Tom's performance was him being trapped under the rubble after The Vulture left him to die. Hearing him plead, cry, and scream for help sent chills down my spine because he played the frightened kid in that particular scene to perfection. Given the lighter tone and atmosphere of the film overall, I was surprised at how dark and disturbing that one moment was honestly.

Enjoyed it quite a bit. Not sure where I'd place it yet; but fun time.
Also Marvel straight up trolling with the end credits scene was funny.

Might as well be upset that Winter Soldier, Civil War and the formation of the Guardians all happen before Infinity Gauntlet.

I'm just put off that Peter didn't make the iconic Spider-Man costume himself. Tony Stark just had far too much involvement in his road to becoming Spider-Man.

For me, as long as they get the spirit of Peter being a good kid struggling to do the right thing and able to cut loose as Spidey, I'm good. They did that here. So I am onboard.
The AI suit? Eh, I'm ok with it. Could always damage it or something. Is a fun version.
Supporting cast changes, I'm fine with. There were some that were just named as they were as little nods to the books. No big deal.
Easily the best version of the Vulture they coulda done.
Good flick.
I'd probably put it 3rd: Raimi 1&2, this, Amazing 1, 3, Amazing 2.
But honestly, I'm a pretty soft touch when it comes to Spider-man. I like em all to varying degrees.

{Spoiler}It was alright, still the shock Aunt May found out in the end. And Captain America post credit scene.
I guess Tony and Pepper works things out in between movies.
