What do you mean about the diversity exactly, though, and it what way was it gross? I'm not mad, just confused. It was a very realistic portrayal of what the student body of what most schools, let alone one in NYC, look like in this day and age. My friends and I were actually talking about how much we liked that aspect of it just earlier today. We're a very diverse group ourselves, and it felt really cool to see that reflected in the movie. I just meant that it really didn't feel genuine. Marvel has taken some heat (deservedly so in some cases) for a lack of diversity. To me, it just felt like they went out of there way to cram it in here and pat themselves on the back for doing so. I probably should've never opened this can of worms, but if you google (Not sure if it breaks rules posting the link) there's an article that sums up my feelings in a much clearer/better way than I can. I get what you're saying. The casting of Peter's social group didn't feel like something where Marvel auditioned and went with the best choices on the table. It feels like when they were narrowing down their choices, they were definitely going for race first and foremost. Flash Thompson is the most glaringly obvious example of this. There's nothing about that actor that fits the character. Taking race off the table, general physical descriptors of the character should be tall, athletic, and handsome. That could be any race, but somehow we ended up with a short, skinny, goofy looking Flash Thompson likely because they were determined to cast this specific kid no matter what.

One minor thing.. just a nitpick.
But why was the school and I'm assuming all U.S schools in the MCU showing those Captain America PSA videos? Isn't Cap still considered a fugitive by the state at this point?

I'm all for diversity, but this was the equivalent of someone taking a picture of themselves giving food to a homeless person and posting it on Facebook. There wasn't anything genuine about it besides Marvel going, "Hey! See how progressive and diverse we are! See what we did!? Aren't we good?" LOL. That's Marvel 101.

Saw it earlier this morning. Loved it from the opening where the usual Marvel fanfare was replaced with an orchestral version of the song we all know and love to the very funny end credit scene.
Holland was great. The vlogging of his experiences from Civil War was amusing. Mostly I loved that he was a kid who went from a taste of something big in the airport fight from Civil War to wanting to do more of it, and realising he wasn't ready.
Keaton stole the show for me. Not only made me want to see more of him, but there's a certain scene that gave me chills. And i'm not the only one based on reviews i've read since i've been home. Brought that scary intensity that made him a great and my personal favorite Batman. I actually sympathised with his story.
A certain scene with Aunt May had me laughing. I actually didn't mind the AI suit at all.

Had a great time with this, no chattering rude old woman going "Oh wow, oh my god, who's that, what's this, oh my god, wow, oh wow, oh my god" like at Wonder Woman.
Seriously hope she was put in a home.

Upon second viewing, it may actually be the best Spidey movie. I'm not 100% decided, but the choice would be razor thin between 2nd Raimi and it. Maybe 1 and 1a whichever way you wanna go.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Wow, a Disney Marvel movie where the villain LIVED.
What a shocker. {Spoiler}Was this the first time that has happened so far? Talking about the movies, themselves, not the shows I enjoyed this a lot. Not my favorite Spider-Man movie, but a good time was had. Vulture is on my shortlist of best MCU villain. A well round, three dimensional legitimate character. {Spoiler}And I did not see him being Liz's father coming.

One more thing, I know the {Spoiler}Michelle/MJ thing pissed a lot of people off, but when Kevin Feige was asked whether she is Mary Jane Watson, he said she isn't and we haven't met Mary Jane yet.

Add me to the list of people who loved it. Was a huge Spiderman fan as a kid (mostly from the cartoon) and while I love Sam Raimi, Toby Maguire just never did it for me as Spidey. The Spidey I grew up with was witty, sarcastic, and hilarious. Toby Maguire is not (though I will admit he is quite funny in Spoils of Babylon).
Tom Holland nailed it. I hope he gets three or four films to really grow into the role, because an adult man Tom Holland would be awesome (he's 20 now, so think 26-27). This kid just has it and is going to go far, not just in the Marvel universe but Hollywood in general.
But as good as Holland was, Keaton stole the show. Not a huge surprise since he's obviously one of the greatest actors on the planet. But it felt so refreshing to have a Marvel villain that actually had some depth. Maybe I'm in the minority but I've always felt the villains have been a weak spot for Marvel. I totally bought Vulture's motivation hook, line, and sinker. And of course it helps that he wasn't just inherently evil (or evil at all, it could be argued). Just a blue collar guy trying to do right by his family.
I know it's a longshot and someone already mentioned it earlier, but Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin would be an awesome addition to these films. He was always one of my favorite Spidey villains from the cartoon and I think they're missing a huge opportunity by not having him cross over into the films. I'd actually rather see Kingpin make it into the cinematic universe over Daredevil (though I believe Daredevil is rumored for Avengers?).
Back back to Homecoming. Overall was not a perfect movie (if I had to go back and analyze, I'd say the structure probably misses the mark in some places). But character and dialogue really hit the mark. Sometimes that's all you need. I will also say the set pieces (particularly the Washington Monument and the ferry) didn't necessarily blow my mind, and it will probably be impossible to ever top the Spidey/Doc Ock train sequence from Spiderman 2. But ultimately this was a great movie experience for me. 7.5/10

Oh, yeah. He was a thing that happened, wasn't he? Being that he was the catalyst for The Avengers breaking up and causing Tony and Steve to almost kill one another. Yeah...definitely a thing.

This was pretty good. Better than the last two Spider-Man movies, but I haven't seen the first three in so long I can't say for sure if Homecoming tops them. I went in thinking I was going to strongly dislike this movie but left with the feeling that I actually want to see where an MCU Spidey goes next.
Although I am surprised to see that none of the reviewers have yet to pick up on the homosocial subtext of the movie.
