Just back from the cinema. Fantastic movie, the casting was great. I loved all the little nods to characters from the wider Spider-Man universe. Tom Holland is a great Spider-Man. Also {Spoiler}I loved the reveal as Vulture as Liz's father. Completely blew me away & worked for the film. Also clever way to get Liz out the picture for the future Peter & MJ romance.

One thing i noticed, was that Marvel was absolutely right about not emphasizing his spider sense. The way he moves/dodges you can clearly tell he has it, but they're not devoting a whole slow mo scene to it this time. Def appreciated that.

I saw it twice yesterday, I thought it fit nicely into the MCU. Tom is a great Spidey. I think some of the fatigue people have with the idea of highschool Spidey is well this is the 3rd time we're seeing it, and while we didn't have to see Ben die again or Peter bite by spider, but the MCU is nine years old so the fact that Spidey is the 15th MCU movie and not one of the first something feels slightly off. But that was due to their Sony problems so I understand. Keaton was great. I was happy there was no infinity stone in this one as even though I'm excited for the IW, I'm a bit tired of magic macguffin movies. Few complaints is this movie was pretty much an extended version of the trailer released months ago as it pretty much gave you the entire story beat for beat, I probably would have enjoyed it more had I not seen the trailer. Though there was a nice amount of cameos and twists I wasn't expecting. Secondly, some of the big fights were a bit dark and it was hard to make out what was going on. Reminded me of watching the first Transformer film. I mean Spider-Man 2 came out 13 years ago that seemed to have more comprehendible effects than this. Finally the mid credit scene, for the wait and reveal it kinda left you saying "that guy?" but I understand what their building to.

Best friend just got in from seeing it and described it as, "I feel like I just binge-watched a high-school sitcom where occasionally the protagonist fought crime." I think that perfectly sums up why I disliked it.

I can understand that not being everyone's cup of tea, but one can't say it's not true to the character.

I can understand that not being everyone's cup of tea, but one can't say it's not true to the character. I'd say all the stuff that Spider-Man does when he's just Peter Parker is integral to who he is as a character. His whole thing as a hero has been basically about that.

Really really enjoyed it. Holland was great, and Keaton is up there with Hiddleston in the MCU. Props also go to Zendaya for her work as Michelle, she was good and freaking funny. {Spoiler}- I liked that Spidey f***ed up. He's a kid, he's not going to be able to be as effective as Cap, Sam, Black Panther, Wolverine, Wonder Woman, Superman, or any other hero.
- Speaking of just being a kid, Peter under the rumble, holy shit. That reminded you and really drove home the fact that he's just a 15 year old kid. Was not expecting that.
- Tony and Pepper working things out was a nice touch. After Civil War, Tony probably got everything together, and realized he's already split from one family and Rhodey's injured, he should reconcile with Pepper.
- The reveal of Liz's dad up to him threatening Peter, that was great tension building. Masterful job.
- "What the f***?!"

Question, is it worth seeing in 3D or stick with the regular viewing?

I saw it today and I enjoyed it, for the most part. There were definitely some changes that didn't sit right, but...I mean, it's just going to keep happening with every movie made. It was funny and serious in the right moments. I thought Tom Holland did a great job. I was...OK with it.
I liked the subtle hints of there not being any good pictures of Spidey. It looks like someone needs to step up and start getting some good shots of him. *wink*
Also, ironically, I couldn't help but look at Michael Keaton a few times during this movie and think, "Man...he would play a pretty decent Joker" based of some of his faces and mannerisms.

On a sidenote Nothing really sticks out about the score The orchestral version of the Spider-Man theme over the Marvel opening was awesome. Speaking of that, loved that they used The Ramones shortly afterwards, and over the credits. It was fitting to have The Ramones basically open and close the movie, since they did have a pretty damn popular cover of the Spidey theme. They're also from Queens. I liked the subtle hints of there not being any good pictures of Spidey. It looks like someone needs to step up and start getting some good shots of him. *wink* So Jimmy Olsen has to get shots of Superman and Spidey now? You're asking too much of him.

Jimmy's dead, he was one of the random people that got killed off because Synder got a kick out of it.

I hate to sound like an asshole/contrarian, but I really did not like this movie. I'm not sure if the reviews just hyped it up too much for me or what. It felt like I was watching Degrassi or Saved By the Bell: The Spider-Man Years. I grew up reading Spider-Man comics, so I know the whole deal, but this movie just felt like it was a bad teen sitcom and drama in various spots. I also loathed the "LAFF-A-SECOND" thing. Again, I know Spider-Man likes to joke around, but this was just ridiculous. My wife looked over at me at one point and said, "This is just too silly" and I think that summed it up well. Also, I still don't buy Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. I've been conditioned to picture Aunt May a certain way. When Tomei is onscreen, I just don't see it. Also, RDJ as Iron Man/Tony Stark is basically like The Rock or Lesnar to me now: It was a good gimmick, but it's tired as f*** now. Also, this is probably going to bite me in the ass, but Marvel's "Burger King Kids Club-ing" in this movie was a little gross. I'm all for diversity, but this was the equivalent of someone taking a picture of themselves giving food to a homeless person and posting it on Facebook. There wasn't anything genuine about it besides Marvel going, "Hey! See how progressive and diverse we are! See what we did!? Aren't we good?" Again, I don't intend to come across as an ignorant ass, but it just felt phony. I was honestly expecting Wheels to roll through at any moment. I didn't think it was all bad, though. Zendaya was great as Michelle. Michael Keaton was the best thing about the movie. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}When he realizes who Peter is and the resulting speech he gave him in the car was outstanding. As poorly written as I thought his character was, Keaton is good enough to where he made it work and he made it shine above everything else. Hell, I was rooting for him at the end. In the end, I'd put this way ahead of Spider-Man 3 and the equally awful Andrew Garfield movies. But it's also a distant third behind Raimi's first two Spider-Man movies.

What do you mean about the diversity exactly, though, and it what way was it gross? I'm not mad, just confused. It was a very realistic portrayal of what the student body of what most schools, let alone one in NYC, look like in this day and age. My friends and I were actually talking about how much we liked that aspect of it just earlier today. We're a very diverse group ourselves, and it felt really cool to see that reflected in the movie.

I just meant that it really didn't feel genuine. Marvel has taken some heat (deservedly so in some cases) for a lack of diversity. To me, it just felt like they went out of there way to cram it in here and pat themselves on the back for doing so. I probably should've never opened this can of worms, but if you google (Not sure if it breaks rules posting the link) there's an article that sums up my feelings in a much clearer/better way than I can.
