I can't take him seriously. I tried. I chuckled a bit at his promo...then he said "it's time to rage" and I LOST IT laughing.
He just looks like a puffy, pasty guy, who looks funny with wet hair. I just can't.
I'm not saying I'll get pleasure out of Owens destroying him, but I'm not saying I won't.
Props to Owens for making fun of his ugly tattoo.

Alex Riley has had two jobs in WWE. Wrestler and commentator. He has done neither well.
Why are you here, Riley? Mizdow did your job better than you did, and he doesn't even look like Miz.

Riley is actually pretty solid as a wrestler. And while he sucked at talking over matches, he was gold as a pre-show panelist, and I honestly wish he was still doing that even as an active wrestler. I can't eben compare Damien Mizdow to Riley as their gimmicks aren't even similar. Riley was basically a finisher dummy for Miz, and barely got to wrestle alongside him, if at all. Miz basically got buried for Mizdow., Riley's career has been one mishandling after another with him basically trying his hardest to work with what really little he's been given.

I like his theme song and his promo wasn't bad but that match was hot garbage.

Take off those kickpads, doofus. Riley wears kickpads because he doesn't wear boots; he wrestles in sneakers. I like it because it's like a small, very subtle accent to his look that sets him apart. Bar the fact that there's about 4 people in the roster who already do that (Well, 3 & Batista) Nothing about his look sets him apart dude, I know you love him, but he's generic as f***. A left over clone from the FCW machine of 2007-2008, where everyone had to look like Randy Orton lite in black trunks and shitty tribal tats. Also, despite all his rage, he is still just awful in the ring.

I was willing to get on board with that promo but the match with Parker was pretty bad. He should have blitzed through Parker, instead he gets stuck in a headlock?

Miz basically got buried for Mizdow., Riley's career has been one mishandling after another with him basically trying his hardest to work with what really little he's been given. It didn't help his case that back during NXT Season 2 he was the most generic "cocky generic arrogant jock" guy to ever be generic. He managed to overcome that on the main roster and get over from being abused by Miz (which seems to be a good way to gain a wrestler some sympathy heat) and held onto that for longer than one might thing he could have despite not doing all that much. And now he's trying to get back into the game and make up for all that lost time (after pissing away what goodwill he had due to his poor showing at the announce table) when you have more respected talent under contract than there has arguably ever been before. Not just that, but said respected talent is shifting the paradigm when it comes to body type, social caste, and social attitudes, and Riley still looks and acts like the "old guard" that so much of the fanbase now resents. He's a jock in what's increasingly becoming a world of geeks. I'd like to see Riley succeed (since he mostly overcame his NXT Season 2 crap), but he's got a steep uphill battle.

The way I saw it, the match was decent just from a purely "workrate" perspective. I feel that if Riley did everything move for move with an opponent who wasn't supposed to be a total jobber, the match would not look so awkward. The problem is that Riley doesn't JUST want to rage all over everything. This isn't only about him wanting a piece of Kevin Owens. Riley, both in kayfabe and reality, is trying to prove his worth as a "wrestler", so he's stuck having to "wrestle" this guy that he should be crushing effortlessly. However, his efforts to prove that he can "work" only serve to make him look bad because he is selling too much and the enhancement guy is getting too much offense in.

A mediocre match like that must have left you in a RAGE.

Riley seems to have aged about 15 years since 2011.

I think he's going to get hurt if he keeps using that Blockbuster. He looked like he got hurled put of a burning building.

It was hilarious to hear that promo and expect him to come out fired up and beat Parker's ass instead there were lots of headlocks and not too much ass kicking. WWE and NXT are so guilty of this in general. They put Hideo and Balor in long restholds with jobbers for their very first matches. It sucked as much as you'd expect.

I think he's going to get hurt if he keeps using that Blockbuster. He looked like he got hurled put of a burning building. I'm torn. I don't want him to get hurt and blow yet another chance at success. But I'm such a mark for bigger guys that can fly and do "athletic" maneuvers. I feel like the Blockbuster and similar moves are what Riley needs in order to be able to keep up with all these rising workers. Riley's far from a wrestling master, but the fans seem to love and respect the hell out of him for trying. Even years ago when he was green as shit and sloppy as f*** in the ring, he was trying a lot of stuff to see what works. If he doesn't do stuff like this, people will just complain that he "hasn't improved", "still sucks", "boring in the ring", etc.

I thought Riley was ok, but just, everything about him seems so fake. Whether it was him on commentary, his promos, his catchphrase, he just seems to be playing a part and trying to find out what are the best cliches to say. Half of his promo before the match was basically the OVW promo checklist, beginning with repeating the last thing said but as a question "How am I going to do?", "Let me explain it to you in a way even YOU'D understand!", etc.

Am I watching the wrong promo? Where does he say "it's time to rage"? I don't think WWE posted it. It was during the show before his match.
